I don’t like having a favorite pet, but I have to say, Rocks-Anne (Barred Rock hen) is by far the friendliest chook I have. She tells me when she wants to be picked up and snuggle with me. She will fall asleep in my arms, Coo and purr like a kitten. Me and that lady have been through a lot the last six years. I love her very much. :love

That's my plan. I figure if HE gets bonded to them, he will love them regardless and won't be afraid. And, if THEY bond to him, they won't be aggressive toward him/protective against him.

I'm hoping they will help protect my chickens and ducks. They are being brooded with my current ducklings and chicks, hoping they'll bond nicely (All involved!):fl

So, I am thinking of Harry & Sally for their names (like the movie), but honestly, other than that Idea....they haven't spoken to me yet, name wise.
Benny and Joon. George and Gracie. Ricky and Lucy. Rhett and Scarlett. Clark and Lois. Zeus and Hera. Jupiter and Juno. William (Will, Bill, Liam) and Kate. Heathcliffe and (can't remember her name from Wuthering heights if that's the right Bronte book). Henry and Eleanor. Mork and Mindy. Han and Leia. Ryker and Deanna. Richard and Hyacinth (keeping up appearances) or Onslow and Daisy. Harry and Ginny. Ron and Hermione. Neville and Luna. Poirot and Marple. Gilbert and Anne. Louis and Serena (although they're swans)

I probably owe taxes on all the name pairs...

We definitely had some frigid weather this winter, but our February and March was actually quite nice, oftentimes warmer than yours! This has been a really late spring though. We can get snow every month except July in our area, but it's not that common to have several inches like that in May.

This was why I chuckled. :thumbsup It is GREAT that you will be able to sell more!!! :thumbsupHopefully things go smoothly next time....and hopefully the $500...at least some of it....can help you get what you need for the next one! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️❤️
Yep, last month and a bit of the Saturday markets (I was told that the guys putting up the house wanted us to give them cash as well as the ridiculous number of goats they hunted) I managed to save a little over $5k, and still cover all the overhead to maintain product levels. May-November are usually insane for us schedule wise as DH is working two paying jobs (almost like one full time one 😆) plus working at the abattoir here three days a week for free. There’s also the Saturday market, peeping the product for the markets, and the chickens… meat chickens included. Which is going to make the whole “roof” thing that much more challenging.

Beauties 💖🤗

Your neighbour sounds like a good person to have your gals helping out 💖
He can't as of today because we are getting this roof replacement and he's doing some sort of work in his garden. But they have enjoyed it. I'll collect something from the front for them to forage.

Dotty - your wise counsel needed
Yesterday I continued to think Dotty didn't look fully OK, and after bed-time she came down from the roost and went into a nest box.
I set the alarm super early this morning hoping to see an egg, but ready to find anything including Dotty dead in the box.
Instead I saw nothing because Dotty said hi to me from the day perch by the nest boxes.
I grabbed her and gave her the once over. I examined her vent and couldn't see or feel an egg and I felt around her underside and didn't feel an egg from the outside either.
The nest box had no egg but also no poop.
So, did she stay all night in the box and didn't poop?
Did she come out in the night and actually spent the night on the day perch (the camera didn't pick that up, but they aren't perfect)?
She isn't pumping her back end and it is still too dark for me to see her comb color. I made her take some calcium tablets just in case, and when it is lighter I will go sit in the Chicken Palace and try and observe her behavior and poop. On camera right now she looks like normal - sitting with Minnie and preening,
Any ideas? And I am a bit worried I don't know how to examine her for a stuck egg. Could someone explain how to feel her underneath and where I would feel an egg if it was stuck? I get the bit about sticking my finger in her vent but not how to examine her outside.
Thanks all!
