I put chicken wire with my screen door in the barn as I just knew they would rip the screen in no time!
I had a hardware cloth screen over the bug screen, also to help keep the cats in during summer, a certain goat may have started trying to open the door with her head, and the HC was deformed and scratchy so I pulled it off for the winter… as we are getting into “leave the door open for ventilation” weather… ish if
I want to have any hope at maintaining the ‘outside chickens’ rules here this is going to need replaced! Exhibit A:

We had a morning goat chip spill, and she didn’t poop, so it was sort of like a pre vacuum cleanup.

A lot of my girls will hold things in over night, and upon morning let out there are several Sheep sized chicken bombs deposited not far from the coop. I’m not sure why they do this bit I think it might be somewhat related to going broody as well. That didn’t stop Goldie from fouling her box yesterday, which I was then required to clean for her. Extremely painful. She bites and shakes her head like a pit Bull. I swear she’s the meanest chicken I have, even over my hawk attacking Bully girl.
Interesting. When Maggie lost her balance and stopped roosting she slept in a nest box and crapped happily in it all night long. I was glad when she decided to go back to roosting so I didn’t have to clean the nest box each morning.

Could be from extra “wear” due to her
Mobility issues.
That is a good thought.
I don’t really understand chick molting but I assume she will be molting again at some point so hopefully they come in nice.

After three days of torrential rain the weather is turning a bit. It is still cold and very windy but mostly not bucketing down.
The big Princesses are very happy to be allowed out so they can drink from the muddy puddles and not be forced to drink the rainwater out of a container like their cruel human makes them do.

Here are Maggie and Diana making full use of the ever expanding chicken yard.

Happy Pony Sunday. Jimmy would like to make you all aware of the flagrant animal abuse I have been engaging in… his bag of apple chips was empty, and he was forced to desperately mouth the packaging hoping for a small taste of them. It had been so long, at least an hour or two, and as you can see by his belly he is clearly famished, and about to perish from malnutrition. Also, last week I tried to pass off the system tap water as the bottled spring water they usually drink. Although I used the same container and even re-capped it, neither of the goats were fooled by this cruel prank.
