I did not realize that mowing killed clover. Very interesting.
Mowing won't kill it - the root is big and deep - but it is a "short-lived perennial" and relies on re-seeding to keep going, so if you mow when the flowers are out it can't spread and the original plants will die. I have gardened around clover as I want it to help the surrounding soil (now the chickens will eat some) and noticed a plant will live a few years and then be gone.

I'm going to say a clover plant around here lasts about 2-3 years, though I haven't kept records! If it gets hacked back I think it lasts the shorter time.

I know today is mugshot day. I have an uncooperative collective today. Not even any decent Friday pics. However, updates are needed. Yesterday was a mostly drizzly day (snow that melted on contact, much needed moisture :ya ), frost this morning (not surprising).

Jess with the little pair: I suspect a pullet and a cockerel, but too early for definitive.

The trio inside: the Egyptian chippy is likely a pullet as she's showing the bielefelder pullet colors, but she has a rose comb, so .... both the buff have cheek puffs, the large chunk from a blue egg, likely fathered by the 3-4 year old BOxEE cock and the little one from a white egg: must be from mine: looks just like cheetah, puffs must be Thing, highly unusual as the cross should be 100% black (split to mottle: can throw mottled babies).

As far as the rest of the lot:

I have NOT had to evict them from the coop in the morning the last 2 days. They're coming out with the bigs: Integration success. Ranging still needs some work, but size wise they should be staying mostly undercover, which they are so:wee:wee:wee:wee

Congratulations on integration! I feel I am still a long way away from that point but am trying to be patient.
And the little wing feathers on the tiny ones. 🤗🤗

It keeps it from reseeding. Clover is a short lived perennial (most, there are a couple of annual varieties out there, but few.) This article is about red clover, but it is true of clovers in general. Also, they tend to get out-competed by other grasses, as well, in good pasture.

Getting them outside was the hard part this time. outside is still work in progress, but them embedded in the adults for breakfast is HUGE. They're also working on roosting.

The universe is trying to tell me something I think. I told you all grandma decided I needed a Polish. The first thing that pops up on my facebook this morning from one of my local groups is a add for blue polish hatching eggs. These eggs are from a NPIP certified breeder and they are only 20 minutes away from me. I still stand firm that I cannot add Polish this year, but I think I will go ahead and contact them to find out how much they cost and if things go right and grandma relents her "I'm going home" rant that is a daily occurrence still get some next spring. I do not want polish, but then I did not want silkies and we see how that turned out.
