I'm up her near the front of the thread because @BY Bob tagged me with the Rascals dustbath. Otherwise holding at about 40 pages behind. But we have a car recall we have to attend to tomorrow and that should offer a chunk of time at the dealership to hang here.
I knew about drug administration by that route, it's an ancient practice, but why coffee? Someone wants the caffeine but hates the taste, or gets heartburn otherwise?
Noticed a bunch sunbathing in this ridiculous heat but by the time I brought my phone back most were back to sheltering in the shade.

Beauties all! 🥰

Is it just me or are her legs unusually long and straight ? I noted this with Bernadette too... Do you think this could be her issue?

BTW I love her colour, is there a name for it?

At any rate she sure doesn't hesitate to throw herself right I?into it, I had a chuckled when the tromped right over her sister an threw herself between them 😁

Love their baby cheeps sooooo sweet 🤗
She is called "Buff Laced".

Yes, she seems very leggy. I can't remember if Sylvie and Legertha seemed leggy or not at this age and frankly I'm still not strong enough to go back and look through their pictures. 😕

Updates to the Hut

Well the Rascals got a taste of construction today. I took out their big roost and legthened the the pieces that attach it to the wall. This made it much sturdier. It should now easily hold Lady Featherington's full weight when she is grown

I then removed the glass door and replaced it with a wire door to increase ventilation in the Cluckle Hut.

This should make it more comfortable at night for them.

Just like @Ponypoor I thought she looked leggy and had a stilt like walk just like Bernadette.
I asked the vet if it was nuts to think that having long legs might make it worse - because the nerves had longer to grow to get to their destination and therefore needed more support to travel the distance.
She had no clue but didn't think it was totally nuts.

Screaming Pullet

The craziest thing happened today while i was building the new door for the Cluckle Hut. I heard screaming by a chicken. I immediately looked around for a hawk. One had buzzed the yard on Friday flying across the yard less than 5 feet in the air. I was sure I had lost a bird.

Then I realized it was too high pitched for one of the big girls. It was a pullet scream. Much like Sylvie. 😥

But there was no way a hawk could get the pullets. They are in the big run with a roof and closed doors.

I ran to the run.

When I opened the door I saw the three of them huddled around my chair with Sydney on the outside looking in.

My first thought, God forgive me, was did Sydney somehow hurt one of them. As I got closer I saw the Lady Featherington and Glynda seemed fine but Gucci was on the ground.

Gucci was the one in trouble.

When I got to her I saw her struggling with her left wing. She had somehow gotten it wedged up into the hardware cloth. A quick examination and I had a way to extricate her. She was free in a moment and in her way seemingly unhurt.

Suffice it to say it was all very traumatic for me. I needed a moment to recompose myself before I started working on the door again.

This Feels Positive

The Rascals were dustbathing today. It starts with Glynda and then Lady Featherington joining in. Gucci is in the background playing dead.

The video is long. If you can't watch the whole thing jump forward to about the 5 minute mark and you will see what I think is a very positive development.

Tagging @ChicoryBlue so she sees this one.

:ya
:wee :ya :wee :ya :wee forward progress!!!

Blazinga was on uni break the last I heard from her, I believe she is still being creative which is why she’s not around. I’ll have to check out the contest? Is there a link?

Poor Gucci and poor you, too! I wonder if Sydney was actually there showing concern?

Poor Lady Featherington, Gucci keeps 'walking' over her!!

Lady F: Really, Gucci, can't I have a few calgon moments, here?

Gucci: (she continues to walk over, then 'plop' down on L.F. ) But you are so soft and comfy, L.F.

L.F.: Dear Gucci, I appreciate you not stepping on me; however, as you can see, I'm an ample lady...could I please have just a tad more bathing space??

L.F. (after no response nor movement from Gucci) Oh, I see. I'll just turn over with my feet towards Glynda, then.

Glynda: (muttering to herself) I was here first...but now I have either LF's feathers in my face, or her feet whipping me. I'll show her, I'll just flip my dust bath dirt onto her. Maybe that will get me some space!

Meawhile, Gucci gets up and then settles back down, but this time right on top of/between G & LF)

Now all 3 shift, making a chicken triangle of sorts, each throwing their dirt up onto the others.

After a few more feeble attempts at dust-bathing, they all collapse into a panting puddle.

Glynda: You know, this dust bathing thing is hard work, especially in the heat.
Gucci: Tell me about it, you try it with a bum leg!
L.F. : True, but you know, I think I am rather enjoying this squished bathing experience! Much more bonding of an outing than I would have thought it; maybe commoner's have it right, after all!

With this thought in mind, they all start robust dust bathing again---SO robust that the camera man has to be careful of flying debris!!
