For 4g of sugar per 1 1/2xups that’s pretty darn good for a nutritional supplement! I’m going to add that to DH’s shopping list. I can’t stand em as a cereal, but wow

I was also looking at supply chain with the idea that getting "people" supplements can be easier than "chicken" supplements and cost of cereal vs cost of powder and ease of administering the stuff.

Well, the babies are growing up. Hector's crow is losing some of the fuzzy, he tried mating one of the brahmas (who screamed the sky down), caught one of the Sussex shaking her feathers like she'd been mated but didn't see the deed. Pippa caught the teenage croak, and as a tribe, it's hard to tell the adults from the juveniles without looking twice (or even more)

Unless you mill your own, are using very old reclaimed lumber, or can source full measure from a local Mill But then that changes all the dimensions on what you’re building if you’re not careful, and trying to mix full measure and standard lumber… it can get messy really quickly, and really screws up the “on center” measurements if you’re using “normal” spacing. Plus it looks funky, and not in a good way! That’s why despit the woodmizer sawmill here I built all my tractors out of lumber from the yard, plus it’s kiln dried and won’t shrink as much as green home milled materials.

Construction rant Tax: this is about the ratio of pullets I’m getting this year as well meet “Sausage 1, 2, 3”, and a pullet… I hope. (There will be room for a few more boys, but I won’t really know who’s a keeper until closer to November) View attachment 3192946

Too bad such a high ratio of 'sausages'. That said, they are all lovely, cockerels or pullets.

A little update on the chicks. Chipie the mama left them Saturday to cope on their own, a day short of six weeks after their hatch. It was done very progressively and with little drama.
I've been a bit worried, since they are completely free ranging and wandering around with no adult chicken to take care of them. They will have to manage though since they are still small enough to go through all my chicken nettings!

You may remember I mentioned that the rooster was rejecting them, and also that one of them was a slow grower. The first problem has been solved as Théo was so eager to get his little Chipie back and is so enamored with her that he doesn't pay any attention to the chicks anymore. The small chick, however, is still growing very slowly and not flying as it should. It keeps loosing the three others, as it doesn't seem to be very clever also. I will let nature decide if it's able to survive, especially as I believe it may be a cockerel. It doesn't show any sign of sickness and eats normally.

I haven't named them yet as we probably won't be able to keep the roosters (I'm still trying to convince my partner... but it's not well engaged).

If she's a pullet(I hope so!) she will very probably be named Merle -blackbird in french. We think she/he is the bantam of the lot.

This one I'm sure is a pullet. She's very sweet and has colors reminiscent of freckles on her face.

He has already proved he's a cockerel but there was no doubt left. My partner call him Gaston after the farmer who gave us the mama and the eggs . He almost looks like he has teenager mustache!

Wow, the smaller one REALLY is behind, growth rate & feathering out wise. However, s/he is just so adorable. I believe Merle to be a pullet. In the pic of her and Gaston, it leaves no doubt - look at his legs versus hers...never mind the comb progression of each.

They are all lovely - hope you can convince your partner to keep Gaston - he already looks stunning

Merle I would say is a pullet

The wee one I would say is also a pullet, I don't see any comb development (but hard to tell with the angle of the photo).

They are all sooooo sweet

Wow, they are so adorable! Interesting how you can sort of see the personalities of the two already!! And, boy, food is sooooo much tastier when you stand on/in the food dish!

And the drinking... nothing cuter than watching chicks drink!
