I suspect that part of Foggy's problem was your hubby was so close to the girls. He probably felt him a threat to HIS harem. Plus, the first surge of hormones is the worst with roos, imo. Regardless, sounds like Foggy is now living the dream!

I will have to check out Lowe's I've been to Home Depot and they didn't have anything I thought would work (spikey top, 4-5' tall, close enough uprights the girls couldn't squeeze through, etc) in their store. I didn't look online because I felt I needed to 'see' it to be sure it would work. I'm sure it will be pricey - as I've got some 150 yards or more to do...but if it will make free ranging safer.....people drive crazy on our back road....and the girls have discovered that neighbor across the street's 'stash' - large platform feeder he fills for deer & turkeys!

One of my fascinator cap friends...she thinks she can grow a tail antennae! It has been like this for a week...I've tried to fix it, and the feather pops back funky...like the shaft grew a bit bent! Fortunately, THIS ONE doesn't know about BeakBook yet!

We had a day and a half of blessidly dry weather. That changes this afternoon. Storms off and on, some of them could be heavy. We are still under a flood watch, but the backwater has went down so at the moment I'm not too worried about a flood. What does bother me is the ground is just saturated still. We moved Russ and Louis down to the barn as their stalls were the worst. Gutted them and due to all the rain have water seeping up in puddles in them. I want my boys home, but I do not want them sleeping and standing in a mud pit. At the earliest, I think they could come back this Friday. Dirt's stall is completely dry. It literally makes no sense. Dirt is not 100% thrilled being a only child, he calls for the boys at times. He does have a stall ready and waiting on him if we do have to move him. My poor chicken coop.....I will also be gutting it as soon as I can as well. It too has not flooded but is a muddy mess.

This is not great news/situation...but I AM glad you all are safe!

Listen, I've unintentionally tangled with hornets before, it was not fun and thankfully I'm not allergic. There is no way I would willingly throw a rock at a nest. Honestly though in my opinion yellow jackets are far worse. Those stinging biting devils will chase you farther then a hornet will and seem to get angrier far easier and quicker. I know everything is supposed to have a purpose. I have to question what on earth is a yellowjacket and mosquito's purposes besides causing misery.

I think you are right about Foggy. I have the same opinion as you do, especially after reading posts from Shad. My husband is too close to the hens for Foggy to be sweet anymore. This is also why I feel good about his rehoming since his new owner is very hands off. Moreover, during free range, he does not bother me as long as I keep a reasonable distance.

Eggs-acutely!!! I agree they can’t possible taste good - can they?! To a bird? What are they feeding? Birds? I don’t know!

Mosquitoes truly evil here this year and now I bet with all that rain down your way they will be bad there

Sorry Bella is still having trouble, RC. Have you offered meat? I once had a very sick hen who would also eat corn. As you know, my chickens find baby bird formula an absolute treat. However, if I’ve had one that just wouldn’t eat, live mealworms or even super worms got them going. Yes, they are fatty, but since Bella is underweight, it might be worth a try.

That's funny I kind of feel the opposite. I feel like cheap easy energy is better when they are sick. That's why I love corn. Mine will always eat corn and it gives them easily digested energy.

Frankly though anything that inspires her to eat is the way to go when she won't eat at all.

Yes of course - first thing I tred!
I have also tried scrambled egg, starter mash, meal worms, sardines, cat food, cooked shrimp, beef liver, and melon guts.
Some of those (eggs) she has ignored competely, others (melon guts, shrimp) she seems keen on for a couple of days and then goes off them.
She is only consistently interested in corn and she isn't digesting much of that as it sits in her crop.

How about creamed corn? That may at least move along.
