Sorry im never on this thread, (or on a lot anyway) chickens have been awful to me lately and ive been so busy.

I just wanted to let some people know because i believe this is a very popular seed brand. “We got nuts” I opened the very fresh and new sesame seeds that just came. Anyway, it was infested with larvae. Just figured id let people know, it was food grade, meant for eating. Infested.

Not only that, but some were attached by what appeared to be a string, moving (the seeds) and dangling from the clear thread. I believe it was a indian meal moth infestation but not to sure. I just wanted to let people know.

Bad batch? That’s not normal. What are you going to do?

I'm not sure , but the chase lasted only 45 mn and was won by team chicken, whereas today they were locked up long hours.
I'll be keeping up my plan to get them used to it. I realized today that it's not being locked up that scares them as much as the other chickens, so I think that's the main aspect we'll have to focus on.

We shouldn't have let them not meddle for so long, it would have made things easier, but we'll work on that from now.

I'm sorry I made the confusion between a precious magical swan and the most common layer breed in the world but I'm sure you'll forgive me since Daisy the leghorn was the Greatest Hen Ever!

I know very little about chicken breeds. I just looked up Frost Legbars and they do seem.to have more slender types than the leghorns I see here, but American leghorns are different I believe.
American leghorns are egg laying machines that are generally used up at 18 months. It's terrible. They are super small and lay very large eggs every day.

It is a tragedy what has happened to them.

Maggie got her final dose of antibiotics - a 5 day course. I am happy not to have to dose her any more. Now we just have to hope for the best.
Lulu has now laid three tiny eggs. I think she is taking a day off today which makes me happy. Bernadette sang for Lulu each day, and yesterday Lulu sang too. Not exactly harmony but cute.
Diana stopped by for a chat. I do think she is a lovely looking lady. I know, I am biased. She is also monumentally greedy and she was not happy that Maggie got a private raisin delivery. View attachment 3226519
You have done all you can. Please rest easy knowing that. :hugs

It feels like we haven't seen a lot of Diana lately. Her feathers really have marvelous depth. 😍

I don’t believe it. Just like that they have become one group. All on the same roost and all together even though there is loads of space.
❤️
From right to left: Diana, Maggie, Lulu, Bernadette.
That is not quite pecking order as Bernadette is above Lulu (even though Lulu is laying) but for some reason Bernie really wanted the end spot and actually stepped over Lulu to get it.

Well Diana has never had a poop problem. Neither have the young ones (Bernadette and Lulu). So it is only Maggie left who has diarrhea (Minnie and Dotty were the ones with diarrhea and they are sadly no more).
Judging by the poop under the roost, Maggie still has a real issue.
My plan is now that antibiotics are done with, to spend the next few days getting probiotics into her. Then, if she still has diarrhea I am going to collect a sample and get it tested and then go from there.
I like this plan.

More crappy hay, it’s so dusty in here both Sally and I are hacking and coughing. I was not happy as this was a replacement bale for one of the other bad bales 😡

I am almost thinking this is last years crappy hay, it sure isn’t like the gorgeous lively hay I got a few weeks ago!!!

Guess I will need to source a new hay supplier 🥺

Unhappy rant tax

That's awful. Just gross. :sick

That's kind of sweet. I'm glad they are coalescing into a single unit. They need each other. :love
