Can use the new stove. It burns hotter, and as of Jan 2022, all chimneys had to have a metal sleeve lining (ceramic tile lining would burn too). Got the stove in, discovered no sleeve. Got the sleeve in, went to slide down inside, chimney wobbled (when took down discovered it was built against the original siding rather than the flashing). Sleeve wasn't designed to be self supporting, so had to order a different sleeve. Stove was ordered a year ago, installation started end of April, tried again just before graduation in May, finally got all the pieces. Have gone 2 winters without the wood stove. The winter power bill reduction will make a large deposit into the home repair fund, and I'm happy happy happy
I want to replace my fireplace with a propane insert 😊 cleaner than hauling wood through the house hahaha.

Last evening, Mr Pompei roosting with the older ladies, poor Marty stuck in the window alone. I hauled her down and put her in her little cubby hole beside roost.

Excellent! Thanks for explaining. I learned something. I'm excited you get to use your new woodstove now!
The chickens may not be happy when their favorite winter resting spot starts shrinking, but when they discover hanging out around the chimney, maybe not.

There were some marks showing the ceramic lining had been failing we discovered when the thing hit the ground. Very thankful the stove gave up first so the catastrophe waiting to happen didn't. The new stove has a glass door (watching safe fires is very soothing), and a drawer under it that the ashes can be swept into from inside the stove. Should make cleaning it out simple. I've got a stinking hunch the Ash heap will be a favorite dust bathing spot, too
