Some pictures of the babies first trip outside to see what grass is all about. They were much braver then I expected.

Wow that’s pretty awesome for a wee little bird!

I think I am safe though as there isn’t a big enough space for them to land and fit through all in one go…. Of course now that you and Rebecca have put those thoughts in my gals head…. !
A little bit of chicken wire staples over that gap would solve the problem.
Or is the gap necessary for the operation of the ladder?

Hey Rebecca don’t jinx me😁

Be thankful you do not own Momma hen, or really any of my girls. That would be no problem what-so-ever for them. When I had my chickens initially down at the barn, Momma hen hid and went broody many times in the hay loft. The only reason she did not hatch chicks then was because I had no roosters at the time. If I were to be brutally honest with you seeing how determined your girls are when they are broody. I am very much surprised they have not found a spot OUTSIDE the barn to hide.

Yep you got it 😊 the ladder needs to slide up there - I have a board I slide over in the winter but I think I will put a track on the underside and have it so it slides closes and open.

It’s actually a source of worry for me as I feel a coon might fit through there. Or a possum.

They are under very strict control here and only allowed outside when I am around to keep any eye on them. Way too many predators lurking in the long grass.

During the day they have the run of the barn and they can sure make a right Royal mess ugh…

Everyone is counted at least 14,000 times a day on the weekend hahahaha. 😁

They also are restricted to the new run I put up and the space where the temporary fence is. Though this morning they bolted out the back door when I was doing chores and made for mount poopmore and all the juicy crickets lurking there 😊

I am surprised they haven’t laid eggs in other spots in the barn though…. I check those regularly and they have never laid eggs there - seems plastic bags are their thing!

You are broody obsessed! 😆

It's like broody PTSD. You see them everywhere!
Umm, you have been reading the stories about my girls right? You've saw the pictures of the Momma's and babies as well? You did see where I told you 2 days ago Bunny went broody.....again this late in the year? Would you like to know how many of my current flock have yet to go broody at least once in their life not counting the new girls? 2, yes that is right 2. Daisy and Butter are the only 2 who have yet to go broody. The rest have either hatched multiple times or had to be broken up.

PTSD, yes, yes I have that and see potential hiding spots and broody girls everywhere.
