How are you doing. Feeling better about your chickens? Hand mending?

My hand feels much better, thanks ! And I feel mostly annoyed at myself for making stupid mistakes and being so clumsy with them. I'm praying (figuratively ) when the dewormer paste is delivered, they accept to eat it on bread or in grapes, because I'm dreading having to syringe ten chickens for five days in a row.

I may have been kind of angry at little Théo for an hour. It was positive actually because I went running to pass it off, which I had completely stopped since Chipie hatched the chicks for the first time in a decade.

And if I may return your enquiry, how are you doing, and feeling about your chickens ? Since you mentioned possible future additions to the chickens palace, I hope it means that your three princesses are faring good, and that you are on the way to mending your heart .

My three ladies seem fine. Maggie still has diarrhea which she has had continuously for months now. I will get another sample looked at, but she was treated for Coccidia and worms at the start of all the decline in my flock and it made no difference.
I am reconciled that with that, and the lash egg, and of course her production genetics, that she probably has a serious underlying illness, but she is just turning 3+1/2 years old now and I feel like she has a lovely life and I enjoy every day we have together.
Likewise Diana who hasn't managed to put a shell on an egg for maybe a year now. She is the same age and is a production breed so also will likely not live long. But again she is having a nice life for now.
The two of them might dispute the nice life because I was late letting them out this morning and they were desperate to get at the wild water from last night's storm.
You understand that with 4 waterers inside their Chicken Palace they are still terribly deprived of the good stuff until they can get to the muddy puddles.


I do need to expand the flock - it is nice and calm with only three but realistically I have a high probability of suddenly finding myself with a solo chicken. I guess I could give the survivor away, but I don't see myself doing that, so I need to rebuild. My plan is to add in the spring, but of course that is taking a gamble that at least one of Maggie or Diana survive the winter. I do hope they both do of course!

One sadness I have now is that Bernadette does not like me very much. I assume she remembers all those times I did physical therapy and strapped her leg. She may also associate me with the loss of her friend Bella. Maggie and Diana are both super friendly. Neither are lap chickens but they like to hang out with me and come up to my level to talk. She is not following their lead sadly.

And now, because you asked a question I could have answered in one line and instead wrote a novel, here are my tax payments of my lovely ladies enjoying the Chicken Palace gardens.

Well, there it is. (Not) sweet but small Piou-piou has grown a tail overnight. It's going to be partially black, which will make her look a lot like Lea.

Are Hibou and Grochatila real siblings ? Their mum was a barn cat and only she knows if they had the same dad. I think they love each other even more than I love my brother.

My three are the same way. We have to spell key words like “out”, “eat”, and “treat”. They are learning how to spell, they already know “o u t”.
