All the chooks are fed started from the youngest to the oldest.......aaaaaaand she's yelling again I'm going to think of a "loud" name for her. :lau
Loquacious, not necessarily loud, but it means 'talkative'. tending to talk a great deal'. And you can nick-name her Loqui (low-key). 🥰
She is a girl after my & @RoyalChick 's Maggie's heart!🥰🥰

I like that, I'm going to make a short list for when it is time to name her. It's going to be interesting to see this one's personality develop, I'm hoping she keeps the spunky attitude. I should feel bad for Raven, but I think she is a little deserving of some payback.

Hello FBA. It's wonderful to have so many baby chicks on the thread...but to be honest I feel exhausted just thinking about it😂- chicks are a cause of incredible delight and worry at the same time !

The chickens are sensing some sort of threat today that I'm not seeing- they left the cover of the laurel tree for only about half an hour this morning to dustbathe and forage some, and they've been back under since. I'm certain they have a good reason to stay hidden so I won't tempt them out, even though it's a beautiful warm sunny day again, 25°/77 now!

*********

She has stopped laying since the beginning of september, but spends time in the nest box almost every morning pretending or trying to lay. This was Caramel's behaviour before we found out she had EYP. Cannelle is too flighty a hen for us to try anything like bathing, let alone feel if there is an egg stuck inside. I am not sure whether it's just molting and a laying pause or a serious issue.

@RoyalChick how is Maggie doing today ?
@featherhead007 I hope you are doing ok and that your clever scheming chickens are helping you stay positive throughout this new week.
Thanks for asking @ManueB. I am afraid Maggie is not doing well at all.
I was sure she would die during the night and I hardly slept at all I was so upset.
But she is still with us. Just.
She is spending most of her time isolating herself in her nest box. She came out for a couple of hours this morning but has now gone back in.
She will eat fresh corn and blueberries and will chat to me while she eats (I serve them to her in her bed). But it looks like she is getting close to the end of the road.

Fresh corn and blueberries and some chatter in bed seem like a nice end of the road for a dear old lady 💚. But if it is to be, it's another good-bye too soon for you.

It is very quiet in my coop/run these days. Everyone is molting, nobody feels like eating, any running around is to chase someone lower than you and peck her.

They're going to get extra special snack tomorrow: salmon mixed with their regular mash snack. A couple of them, especially, need the protein.
Molting is so hard on them. I really respect hens like Sydney that just soldier on through it like it is no big deal.
