I am sure they will love it this winter❣️ They love sunbathing...and the greenhouse effect will be quite welcome, I'm sure!

Well, someone had to do it, might at well be Harley Rider/bad girl Betty!! :lau

what are the dimensions. I'm assuming 4' long...is it now about 18" deep?

I don't know how you feel about this, but you can give a hen a baby asprin (1, 81 mg. for a roughly 5 lb. hen. Or Ibuprofen - liquid children's is easiest for both giving & getting the dosage right. Either will help both with pain and inflammation.

I read an article on BYC regarding ibuprofen dosing for chickens. I'll have to find it again, I'll edit this post to add it when I do (probably tomorrow, it is late now & I'm exhausted, so going to bed!
I look forward to seeing the dosages, in the event I ever need to use any meds ❤️

Sooo, according to Malory's dad my evil plan worked. A certain little girl went home with a silkie riding shot gun in her lap. Hoppy does have a new name though, Drac, short for Dracula.
Awesome 🥰 I predict ‘Drac’ will quite spoilt and be a little prince 😊

I will work for food. 😉
Ooooo wonderful ! I knew Bob was. Newfoundlander at heart ❤️

Do you have a sort of idea of how old he is?
We've been told he's around thirty ! Well know for sure they've lived there for more than ten years, when they were retired from a riding center.
Beautiful Fall day today.

Bernie hopped up to admire the colors.

Beautiful colors! Bernie's plumage is very well assorted to fall colors.
Under Construction

I did not have time to replace the coop roof today but i did have time to expand the porch so more hens can sunbathe this winter.

First I had to disassemble the existing porch without wrecking it. I then had to expand the sides to the limit of the roof.

I then had to put a floor on the porch. This is going to make it significantly heavier but by expanding it I am going beyond the coop base so I need the floor to be part of the porch.

This did create a space under the porch that I would need to close with a cross piece under the floor. I had to patch the floor together as I had no plywood pieces large enough for the entire floor.

Here it is prior to painting.

Then it was time for painting and installation of hardware cloth.

Betty chose to throw new straw all over it as I cleaned the coop and gave them new straw. Everyone was partying in the new straw. Except Sydney, she just went to bed.

Very clever - not too complicated to build, and I'm sure they love it in winter !

As some of you read elsewhere we're having rooster drama here. I would like to know for those of you who have multiple coops how you manage your settings. Are the coops very close to each other or are they far apart ? Do you let the chickens choose in which coop they roost and if not, what type of separation keep them apart ? And most of all I'd be interested to know if any one of you ever had to move one or many chickens to a different coop, how you did it.

I was also wondering @knoturavggrl how your cat and chicks are coming along ? My female cat has gotten a few pecks the last days as she's been very clingy with the chickens- she got chased off by both Théo and Merle.

Here are Monday mugs. I hope you all have a nice week. We have strong rains forecasted tomorrow and Thursday - really hope for rain, but no torrential outpour please 🙄.

Gastounet has suddenly grown huge and is in full hormonal mode.

Oh dear, poor Cannnelle — she sure is going through a heavy molt.

Re: multiple roosters, have had multiple Roos here (youngsters) and it caused mayhem. I am not set up for multiple Roos here, and my gals are older and of course the wee silkies, so the hens hates the older of the Roos and loathed the younger ones. I ended up having to get rid of them.

Re: coop movement, I re-position some of my flock for their safety - the silkies want to roost up on the roosts but I worry about them being knocked off the roost by the bigger hens, so I move them into a nest box closer to the ground. The others I let figure it out themselves.

I would let them figure is out as long as there are no smaller ones being put in any situation. They all know who they get along with.

You have lots of room for your Roos to grow up amd figure it out, I would give them time ❤️
