Hi, folks. I think I may have mentioned that Lucky seems to be done with molt. She’s been talking more and squatted for me a couple times. However, she is moving a little slowly. Today I had to go to work early for a meeting, so I was letting the chickens out and a few of them don’t see so well in low light. I’ve been helping Bridge down from the roost when it’s on the darker side. And then little Mill has had a limp since she was a pullet and lately it seems very sore. So I’ve been helping her down as well. Today Lucky was taking awhile to come down, so I helped her, too. I was surprised how heavy she was. Unfortunately, she has a giant, swollen arse. We all know how that goes. Ascites is not our friend.
Bummed for Lucky, who was from the same batch of chicks as Cashew, the BO I had put down not too long ago. Now I have to figure out what to do moving forward. Just give her aspirin and aloe detox and hope for the best? Have her drain? Try to drain her myself? Take her to an avian that? I love my chickens. But keeping chickens brings so much heartbreak as you all know. The Avian Vet luxury is a little less defendable now that we purchased the house and have a big mortgage. I think Lucky was swelling up last spring, as well. But she molted very early and the swelling went away when her hormones went away.

I'm so very very sorry to hear this. You know what to do. I trust you to make the right decision.

Foxy has becoming the sweetest chicken. She is even too sweet to my husband to handle because she would kick off other chickens who dare jump on his lap. This is crazy considering she is low on the pecking order (a junior).

About two weeks ago, she started doing this hugging thing. It looks awkward but she'd be standing and hugging him for a good 5 minutes every day. She is the most incredible chicken.

Bob, I'll post tax tomorrow. I am physically and mentally exhausted. The HUET was only one portion of the course and probably the easiest. I had the most trouble staying and breathing underwater for 30 seconds with compressed air.

Amazing. Very scary and I love to swim! You did well to get through that and I am not surprised you are exhausted!

I bet it’s not pleasant when it rolls I am surprised they only suggest doing this every 4 yrs though. It’s the same here.

Not sure if I should tell you this but we had a tragic helicopter on ocean crash back in 2009, on route to the Sea Rose a platform ship in the Hybernia oil fields off Newfoundland. Only one survivor.

My cousin. Robert was already out on Sea Rose and was supposed to be returning on that chopper, and when we heard it went down and only one survivor named Robert, well you can understand that we were all freaking out here.

The media was giving conflicting reports but finally our Robby was able to contact his parents and let us know it wasn’t him. Robby and the rest of the returning crews had to take a 16hr ferry ride back to St Johns, as opposed to a 90 min chopper ride. Robby never did go back out to the platforms again after that, even though I reminded him for over 30 yrs there had never been an incident.

I am not sure if the crew on the chopper initially survived the ocean impact, but that survival training is likely what saved Robert Deckers life. I am glad you platform workers have to do this training

Soooo happy you have that over with! What is your next H&S training? I see I have a whole slew of stuff to complete online in my email, I will do it when I get to site though. It’s can be done then.

Thankfully the only thing I am required doing is a collision avoidance training which is a blast to do we do all sorts of training For skid control etc with your vehicle. Like that show Worst Driver - we have to do remedial training for this every 3 yrs.


Also H2S ( hydrogen sulphide) safety training lots of sour gas where we are.

Maybe get some meds to stop the hormones?
