I can't find a range on mine. But Bernie is not 18 inches wide. Some of the heat should reach your other lady. No one is getting any the way it is. Unless of course they shuffle down to be on front of it.

It's just a suggestion. I may be wrong to.
You may be right!
I am not sure.
I am going to watch to see how they behave.
It is a bit too big to fit on the end neatly but probably not big enough to be awkward. I will measure tomorrow.

I went to visit the chickens this afternoon and discovered the wind was just the right direction to blow snow into the coop through the south opening. I have it about half covered with furnace filter material, but the top 8" or so is just hardware cloth.

I stapled a piece of shower curtain over the opening, and my, what a difference! I don't want to lose that amount of ventilation, so I need to find some more furnace filter to put on there. I might just staple up some t-shirts.
Clever solution. Good job acting quickly to help them.

Figured it out. The earlier purchased camera's trials have expired, and those icons aren't there. The coop cam Pro 4 still has a trial active and the icons show up. I believe there IS a way to send videos or pictures to an SD card in the base station but it might be onerous and better to pay the $3 month or take screenshots.
Here's everybody tonight. Peanut went up first and went right to the warm pad. Farthest on the left. Then Butters moved in right away too (she's started up a bad molt, looks like). Nobody's in the nest box.

Yes!
I pay. But I also got a glad drive for the base unit. I just never installed it. I don't know how it works so I can't help.

Me neither - I was hoping you would weigh in and know. I pay for the subscription and I have the cameras on schedules so they come on and off and record when triggered or if I want to when watching.

They definitely snuggle up together.

Why not shift the heater down toward the wall? Okay please don't take this the wrong way, suggesting you undo what you've got there, but from my wire run experience I'm thinking about how versatile the mesh is - what about instead of the board (or use the board there for the mount) you use a wire mesh panel like one wall of a dog crate, or a barbecue grill or something? Hang that, then you can take two S-hooks and hang the heater anywhere along it and also adjust the height, and it's easy to put up and take down. I suggest it be close to the wall, to the right, since they want to be over there, and put it lots lower so they get all the rising heat off it.

Okay, another thought, based on how close I see the ladies here get to it - since they (Bernie) use the platform below to get up on the roost, you might think about hanging the mesh panel from the ceiling, and hanging it behind where they are now (opposite side of the roost bar), so that it can be closer to them. In this picture it would be heating their rumps. Totally in the way of your camera view, I realize, where it's placed right now.

A compromise might be to hang it on the side it is now, but kitty corner between the right wall and the window wall to get it closer.
Just a suggestion, it's all up you!

These are all good ideas to improve things.

Neighbor problems again! Out in the run, my neighbors goose was inside eating up all my chickens feed! (Is nothing sacred?)
The goose flew back over the fence before I could catch it. I must have the best feed in town. What do I call this, goosepassing? Theft? Breaking and squawking? :old :idunno
That's a smart goose. 😆

Can you put the shower curtain down lower, and move the furnace vent up high? That would really break the wind for the chicks, but give high ventilation, which is good?
