Still not over the cold/flu 🤒? I would have thought that no germs would survive in the cold you are experiencing. :idunno
Actually, I just heard a 'thing' on that. Colds/viruses (respiratory ones) actually are more effective at infecting in the cold because our nose cell linings are damaged by the cold (sorry, don't remember the temp that they said was the 'tipping point'), and so it is easier for them to gain a foothold into our systems.

again, I don't remember the temperature they said, but I do remember being shocked, as it wasn't nearly as cold as I thought it would be to have that effect!

Nose tax:

I'd do the Chilly Coop contest but the coop is not a coop... it's a shed that used to hold the lawnmower...
If it is used as a coop, then it IS A COOP. There are all kinds of coops out there. Again, it if is home to chickens, ducks, 'poultry', it is a coop. Enter the Chilly coop contest! The worst that will happen is that you don't win...and you won't win if you don't enter...so no different than that!!!

Oy vey, I am really hitting the tax 'jackpot' tonight! Won't I ever learn to not respond - so I can avoid taxes????

Chicken jail, ha ha ha.

Escape artist, notice she is the ONLY one on the wrong side of the fence? She always watches for when I flip up the top to give them more food and water - and strategically plots her flight path to avoid my 'grabbing hand' trying to catch her and keep her in!

Is she a Welsummer? She looks like my Rosa who is a trickster too! Rosa used to have nice yellow legs like your girl, but they seem to have faded over the years.

Amen to that! My chickens’ coop is a refurbished redwood playhouse! You can see it behind Dorothy here. (It has way more ventilation than appears in the photo.)

I think it's partly due to their youth. My ex-batts also did quite a few crazy things the first two years they were here! Now they are over three, they are much more subdued and less adventurous. There's a time for everything I guess but it makes me feel sad when I see them staying inside or sheltered under trees for the best part of the day. Or maybe it's because their health is declining?
Do those of you who have older chickens also find they act like old people ?

Great crow! He is loud!

One of the two people living here is still a child at heart 🤣 (not me !!). We got back from my partner's mother at 9.30pm yesterday and it was starting to snow, there was almost 10 inches when we woke up this morning!

Poor Gastounet is utterly terrified of the snow. He kept trying to fly to avoid it and crash landing into objects or worse, big holes of deep snow. Now it's beginning to melt and he is really scared every time it falls off the trees or the roof.
He gripped to that deer antler for dear life during at least an hour! Piou-piou doesn't care, she scratches around and got some snow adventures.

About coops, yes if chickens are using it for shelter, then it’s a coop. But if it has four doors, then it’s a sedan 🚘! :D

Hi everyone.

Surgery went well and I actually got to come home yesterday evening. I'm still a little groggy from the anesthesia but am ok relatively speaking. Tried to post last night but my keyboard was not working and I was not able to try to fix it. Finally figured out the problem, had a update pull through while I was gone and it messed up my keyboard and speakers. A simple restart fixed everything.
Glad to hear it went well!
