I just checked and the reason why there were no chickens at the farm show is because of the Avian Flu.
They talk about this non-stop.
I still should've gone for the rabbits and guinea pigs. Can't raise them until we move to the farm due to house and lot sizing issues.
I still want a Lavender Orpington.
Grandma would be great friends with one.
I gave Grandma walnuts and her breathing is better. Is it true that a chicken eating walnuts makes them have better breathing. Also, why no avocados? High vitamins and minerals?
I highly endorse the lavender Orpington.

There were no guinea pigs this year. I did take a photo of one rabbit.

Hi, Mr. P and everyone else!
It's fine. Just buy some cider donuts at the store or make your own milkshakes and apple slushies. Go to the pet store and look at rabbits and guinea pigs. It's not the same but at least there isn't a million people in one place.
I think Grandma has to agree that she hates crowded places. Her favorite place is the kitchen or with her family members.
Speaking of family members, I have a screenshot of Tony kissing Grandma. She did this again off-camera. Didn't want to make it too embarrassing for her.

Poor Grandma couldn't stop twitching her eye after that.

But as of right now, we have Internet, power, and running water. However, our little water company is in dire straits. Several homes still do not have running water, so the rest of us are in major conservation mode. Did I post that giant eucalyptus tree that went down? It was about 200 feet tall, snapped a powerline, and a half, took out the Internet lines, and broken water main.

I feel very fortunate that we have fared quite well here at our property. We can manage without power for awhile just fine. The water was tricky, but it’s back on. There have been so many downed trees and mudslides around us, we’re feeling super fortunate to have chosen a property that is not really in danger of a mudslide.

The generator was fickle, and we had some trouble with it, but I just treated myself to the Jackery 2000 pro. I hope I don’t have to use it for a while, but I’m so glad to have it. My hubby also thinks we should get a much larger generator for the future, along with water storage tank.
Stay safe.

Lavender Orpingtons are beautiful for sure :)

As for walnuts making for better breathing, I would say no, I have not seen any studies to this effect done. Best thing to aid in breathing for animals or humans is good fresh clean air, plenty of exercise, and good food, and lots of fresh water - in other words good health.

I think chickens can eat avocado - in fact I think it's been mentioned on here someone feeding their chooks this. It's extremely expensive here at my home so I don't buy it.

I am hoping that the Avian Flu is less sever this Spring, my neighbour up the road had his ducks and geese die off, but then he lets the wild geese stay on his pond. I kept my kiddos in last Spring and I don't feed the wild birds anymore. I don't want wild birds congregating at my place as they are the carriers of the Flu. Poor things :(

OK well I am off to go look up Lavender Orpingtons to see if there are any in my area at home... maybe a couple chicks in the Spring :)

I might have Leghorns in my future after all.

Hi, guys. I know I vowed not to have any more Leghorns, but check out this update I put on Shad’s thread.
They are both wonderful chickens. I'm certain we l you will love them for a long as they are with you and they will be lucky to join your tribe. :love

Awwwww :) so cute 💕 💕 💕

Love those wattles!

This is the weird thing with the four Buff Orpingtons that live here. They are very busy ladies, first to jump off the roost in the morning, last to roost at night, always zooming around being their curious selves taking care of serious chicken business. They are also much lighter than your typical Orp at around 4.5 pounds. They will be three years old this summer, so they're not babies by any means. When they were younger they did the same zooming around, but then they ran and flapped their wings at the same time. They are slightly more dignified now! :love
Hattie is a real dual purpose lady at over 7 lbs. She is much heavier than yours.
