Anything that is considered a bantam breed will likely only be available as straight run unless buying “started pullets” that are a little older. They say it is too dangerous to the smaller babies to sex them, that they could be injured. I suspect it is also due to the smaller “parts” being even harder to tell the difference between males and females.
The ones I am now looking at are large breed - hens up to 7.5lb... I have time to 'think about it'.

(code for talk myself into it)

Must be going around! I was up most of the night couldn't sleep...

This morning I finally got fed up and got up. Looks like even the chickies are ready to get up!

Whiskers has exited her nest box.

Hopefully you can get some sleep tonight. :hugs :hugs

Trappist Monk in Quebec bred the whites, then an Albertan created the Partridge variety (which I would like), and they have Buff also - oh I wanted 3 Buff and 3 Partridge.

But they only sell as Straight Run here at Performance Poultry - I don't want to risk getting Roos, but might have to - maybe get an even dozen and hope for a 50/50 split on Roos and Pullets. I guess I can process the Roos ( :hit ) again - give them away to my family... They are a dual purpose bird after all :(

Well May is a long way off so I have time.
Mr P needs help with sentinel and escort duties. He is old enough to (hopefully) help educate young cockerels on how to NOT be stupid. Keeping 1 or 2, depending upon personalities would be wise anyway. I say get the chanteclers. You might consider the Dominiques. They're barred (you love that....) and they have rose combs so are less prone to frostbite (closer to the cushion of the chantecler). One of the pullets in the chicks that Cheetah was part of (killed by the dog) was a Dominique. Incredibly sweet and outgoing bird. Curious, bright, and because of her, Dominique is now on my wish list. Barred rocks are nice birds, but Dominique....:love If I ever get an opportunity to get more of them, I'll jump on it.

Yes he brought them from someone in Sherbrook Quebec - bit of a trip for me, but do-able, would mean an overnight stay in la belle province.

I will check out that person also. But I REALLY want BABIES! Give my broodies something to do, and get my chick fix :)

I might just do the straight run and hope for the best. I guess I can process the Roos again.
He also said he had to treat all 5 for mites and lice. (Yes, I read the thread.) Both times he's purchased birds from beeding situations he's had that problem. Hasn't had that issue with any hatchery purchases.

Maybe your sister will want a roo for her girls after the stupid is educated out....
