Oh she was a grand beauty 🥰

I am so sorry you lost her, but I am very happy you shared her beautiful photos of her, it looks like she and Aurora were friends.
Maleficent and Aurora had a complicated relationship. At first Aurora was ahead of Mal in the pecking order and she was nasty. Just imagine Aurora next to last in the pecking order. It was not pretty.

Then Mal laid her egg first and passed Aurora in the pecking order. The change in Aurora was immediate. Mal had her behavior totally in check. Aurora was at her best when Mal was her better. They were quite the pair after that. Yin and Yang. ☯️ Never apart.

There was a couple of months there when the tribe was as good as it had ever been with Patsy in charge and Mal keeping Aurora in line. Sadly the time was very short lived. Within a few months both Patsy and Mal would be gone.

So many lost friends. 😪

I do have fake eggs, ceramic ones in each of the boxes. So far they ignore them completely and go to the back corner of the coop to lay in the bedding. I have never seen a pullet enter the nest boxes not once. I guess they do not like the type I got 🤷‍♀️
Are the nest boxes near the front of the coop? I believe they like to be away from a high-traffic area, not near the pop door, out of the way. Maybe with dimmer light. Maybe that's another reason some people put curtains on the boxes? Or, could you put nest boxes in the back near where they are going already?

So sad, but it sounds like wonderful memories. It must have been hard for Aurora also poor girl.

Tonight's roosting was quite distressing. Poor Bernie was so desperate to get up to join the others in the rafters that she tried to use the electric wire to the flat panel heater as a step along the way. That did not end well.
Nobody is injured and the heater is OK - but I am beginning to get worried she will hurt herself.
I spent a while studying where they go and how they get there to try and come up with a scheme to stop them getting up there.
I am not sure if I can pull it off - but I have some long lengths of sacking that maybe I could drape across the rafters. I am a bit worried they will get tangled up somehow and I will cause more harm than good.
Need to noodle on that a bit.
Poor lonely Bernie.
Ive been thinking on this. How about you thumbtack a sheet or 2 to the rafters or lower to block them off.
