My EE/Ameraucana have never been 'heavy' like Aurora looks, they have been more the sleek look, but with very fluffy faces. She is built like the EE's I have. It may very well depend on the hatchery and exact mix of breeds used to create that EE line, though, that accounts for the difference

Yes, I think she is adorable - so much fluff around her face 🥰 . It looks like she is getting a bit more brown/gold in her feathers. They were in teh middle of their last juvenile molt when you got them....?
Yes, I thought she got more gold flecks as her molt finished.
She splurged on gold highlights. They suit her! 🥰

@Grandmas Coop : I'm sorry to hear about your hen, but believe you did the right thing by her so she didn't suffer. :hugs :hugs

@lightm : How is your Dad doing? Is he at home now, terrorizing your mom by not behaving:gig, or is he still in the hospital?

@BY Bob :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugsMal was a wonderful chicken in so many ways!

@RoyalChick I feel very much for poor Bernie! :( But I agree, she should not be on the rafters. If she 'just' fits, she won't be able to spread her wings properly right away when she goes to fly down....and heavier chickens... their wings just slow their trajectory, they don't really 'fly down' in my experience....so they need their wings out right away.
Thanks for asking. He was released from the hospital on Jan 17th. He is recovering from home. He is apparently behaving. One doctor (there are multiple) really scared him into giving up alcohol for now.

So glad to hear he is out of hospital.

Maybe Eli will fill out over time, but right now she looks like she is built more like Glynda. She has a really lean build - her fluffy face makes her look bigger, but from some angles she looks more like a crow than a chicken!

Any excuse to post an Eli picture. 🥰

She is stunning. And yes, more pictures please. 😁

Late Night Stretching
Hattie is certainly acting like an old lady these days. I caught her getting up for a snack last night. Here she is emerging from her nest box.

Once she is out like many of us older folks, she no longer just trots over to the food. First she needs to stretch, groom, and relieve herself. 😆
I forgot to add the video of her stretching! 🤦‍♂️

I'm glad to see Betty roosting in the main coop!
She has slept there the last 3 nights and actually roosted there last night. I love to see her roosted.

I am considering bringing the small roost I built for the pullets into the main coop. Maybe Hattie would like to use it since no jumping or flying would be needed.

That is great news! :clap

Considering the heart ache in trying to get a black hen before you got Eli, I say you do not need a excuse to post pics of her. She really is a beauty and I love the brown lacing on her. What is wrong with looking like a crow? Raven got her name by looking like a crow as a young lady. She filled out and is a beauty now. Crows are good by the way, I have personally witnessed them chasing a Hawk. They occasionally visit my back yard in the scrap pile. They are welcome whenever they want and I wish they would visit daily.
