Those brabanter birds have landed on my wish list (along with appenzeller spitzhaubens if I spelled that right). Those forward crests are cool looking while not blocking vision.
The upright top-knot is very appealing, like the pavlovskaya too, but along with the appenzeller spitzhaubensthey're a more-available breed.

Wow! that is a big egg :) And glad she is a pro already. Do you think Eli is close to laying?

My silkie laid a normal egg and about 8 hrs later laid a soft shelled egg! It just plopped out of her as she was standing in the aisleway next to me - I of course freaked out having no idea what it was!!! Which started my journey on BYC :)

I fed it back to her and she was happy to oblige and gobbled it up!

Oh I am so eggcited for you with your gals all running about doing chicken-y things!
I don’t know about Eli. She has had a red comb for a while now but she only went in the nest boxes to guard Babs.
And then there is Bernie.

Unrelated to this forum - but something that is of importance to me:

As most of you know I lost my nephew last summer to a drug overdose - he was a welder working for a huge construction firm. He was a trades person. Like those in this story.

I see many people out here that I know are dug addicts, this past weekend was indicative of what can happen way out here in the bush when there is 'nothing to do'. But this story isn't about 'nothing to do' it's about addiction. I ask everyone out there to watch out for your family, friends and co-workers - if you suspect them having an issue, approach it face on.

Thanks you for putting this out there, it’s such a hard topic. “Functional” addicts go practically unnoticed, and those with more significant problems often get overlooked based on their addiction and resulting socioeconomic status. Recently read of a young man who was just buried, his family wasn’t even notified, despite a missing persons report less than 1 year prior, because as an addict there was no estate. The Fentanyl and OD Crisis here has been going on for decades, but so long as it was relegated to the “slums” it seemed like acceptable losses. Until the contamination started hitting the middle class and higher’s supplies. Addiction is not only a mental illness in its own right, but also often a side effect of other undiagnosed mental illness as well. 😢 society needs to do better.

Buffy laid one that was 98.4g (3.47 ounces). It was a monster. Here is a pic of it next to one of her “normal” eggs. Most of hers are pretty big.

I kept losing my balance when I tried crutches so not using them. I have a knee walker, but haven’t used it much since there isn’t much room to move around in the trailer.
I prefer a cane… always easier for me to hobble around with that over crutches for some reason.

Wow that is a monster egg! Was it a double yoke? if not can you imagine the chick in that egg :)

Oh I am sorry to hear such trouble for you - what a pain in the butt! But I guess on the one hand it's a good thing things are close to you in the trailer.

Here is a picture to make you smile - babie!

Cocorico !
I disagree, Babs is no goose. I hope she learns to regulate her egg's size ! It looks good though.

@RebeccaBoyd glad Rosie is feeling better, she's been though a lot of health trouble. You're a real mamma hen to her 😁. I love the chick's names after Poe's poems.

@ValarieF I love your roosters. They steal the show ! Hope you are feeling a bit better.

I keep complaining about very small health problems because I'm so lucky not to have bigger ones. I've been having a torticolis for two days! I think you call it a stiff neck but torticolis is a much funnier word. Anyway it's been quite cold here and even though the weather is beautiful I've been spending more time inside than usual which is making me cranky. I do have pictures of Piou-piou drinking through the ice for thirsty Thursday! Have a nice day / evening everyone. My chickens are already asleep here.
