Mugshot Monday
Bernie granting me a brief audience.
Eli - about to sample my fingers as her new favorite snack.

Drama at the Chicken Palace this morning.

I heard very loud, very angry chickens while I was getting up this morning.
I rushed out and I found that Babs had decided to jump down off the rafters into the servant's quarters rather than into the run as usual.
She could not get back. I don't know why she couldn't go back the way she came in, but apparently that was impossible.
I am sure you have spotted that this was all my fault.

So, I am apologizing profusely for my wrongdoing. I am not 100% sure in all honesty what I did wrong, but I realize there is no point in arguing so I am apologizing anyway.

Here is Bernie yelling at me through the door of the servant’s quarters. I will spare you the sound track.

Well, well. The Chicken Palace is a happening place!

Eli has been in and out of the nest boxes all week but mainly as Babs’s bodyguard. I guess she decided to try it out for herself. She created a deep bowl in the bedding and laid this little number. It has white spots and is 46.6g = 1.6oz.
Congratulations Eli!
She seems quite surprised by what she produced.
Babs also laid today.
Bernie can’t see what all the fuss is about and thinks it is all a waste of time.
I have forgotten how I collect eggs and where I store them - I think I have a basket somewhere!

Aww… congrats to Eli! ❤️❤️❤️

Drama at the Chicken Palace - lesson learned.
I didn't have cameras pointing outside so I missed this - but I can pretty much figure out what happened by examining the damage.
The poultry net suppliers always say that it is dangerous to have the fence up without it being electrified. I knew that, but I forgot to turn on the charger, and it has been off a lot recently because I had to replace the battery, and I think the wildlife has forgotten to avoid the fence.
I came out this morning to find the fence ripped out of the ground, my chair knocked over and tangled in the fence. Closer examination revealed some damage to the actual fence netting and some raccoon hair torn off and wedged in parts of the fence.
I think what happened is that the raccoon charged the fence, got tangled and in struggling to get out sent the chair flying.
Lesson learned, keep the fence charged.

Here is the damage to the fence and some tufts of hair as well as the chair as I first found it and once I had untangled it and got it right side up.View attachment 3399690View attachment 3399691
Oh, that’s a bummer! I hope you have it turned on and will want to pick your brain on this, since I’ll likely want one someday.
