Shocking!

What brought this on?
Greed. Pure greed!
I sat out with them until quite late (I was on poop watch remember). As a result they stayed out foraging much, much later than usual - I think they felt secure because I was right there. So by the time they went to bed it was almost completely dark. Eli seems to fly up to the rafters without even looking, but Babs needs to calculate her route and I think she couldn't see well enough to do so.
I will admit the large number of bugs and worms she had eaten outside may not have helped - her crop was enormous - I am surprised she could walk let alone fly!
Anyway, she tried three times to get to the rafters, and fell to earth each time. Finally she gave up and stayed put.
She and Eli carried on a long and quite high volume discussion after this, but Eli stayed up in the rafters on her own.

Fatten her up and at least 2 will be down lower.

What?!

It's a strategy. 🤷‍♂️

True friends are priceless! 🥰
I truly got the feeling that Blanche was saying to herself 'finally stupid human - how dense are you? do I have to peck you in the eye?' haha! but it was so blatant, glad I paid attention finally!

Roosting Ideas...

So I have been giving the roosting situation in my Hen House a lot of thought and I am going to try the following:
- Put in 'shelves' that are about 14x14" and stagger them
- Put one at 3.5' and one at 4', the next at 3.5', and the next 4'.... and so on so.
- I can have a lower level for those silkies and birds that can't fly to 3.5', staggered the same way.

This way there will be a single shelf for each bird to roost on, and if they squabble then then can just move to the next one.

Thoughts everyone?

I try not to think. When I think, I usually just get into trouble!

This deserved a laugh, a sad/hug, and a heart and an OMG!

Poor Eli and Babs, fast friends separated for the night! :hugs

 I am always amazed how much they can stuff in their craw!

I know I shouldn't, but I chuckle at the image I have of food-boob Babs trying to get enough lift to get to the rafters.😆

And so sweet, them calling and talking to each other🥰

🤔Maybe you should do this more often with them...and it might convince Eli to stay with Babs if it happens regularly (like 3-4 days in a row), instead of just the occasional thing.🤔

I think I need a sketch/diagram to understand. Would they go from one shelf to another? How? I think I am not quite seeing it.
