Rosie actually took Russ on a trail ride yesterday. She was on him almost 2 hours. He was fine the whole time she rode him. Got off him, cooled him down and let him pick for close to a hour. When she went to put him up she thought he was starting to walk funny. Checked him over, looked like maybe, maybe he was stiff in one of his back legs. Ok, he has pretty much had a vacation since July when they fell, he is just a little muscle sore. Mom went out this morning and he was laying down napping. She spoke to him, not intending for him to get up. He had trouble getting up and mom was thinking lame in that back leg. Get him out of the stall and let him walk a bit to try and pinpoint where he is hurting. He was not limping every step, every few steps he would limp. Again, acting like it was his back leg. Tie him to the tree and check his feet to see if there is a rock or something in his foot. Both back feet are fine when we clean them, the other front leg is good when they are cleaned. Pick up the what turns out to be bad foot, she goes to clean out around the frog area and he jerks his foot away. Ok, that foot is sore. Pick it back up, and see a bit of blood. It was not running, sort of thick almost pussy blood. We think when he jerked his foot away as she was trying to clean the frog area the abscess blew then. Got everything together and gave him his first round of a epsom salt foot soak Put him back in his stall and squirted some Iodine in it. We then waited a couple hours while we found the duct tape, and re-watched a youtube video on how to make a boot. When Rosie got home we got everything together and this time did a longer soak in epsom salts and when we were done packed it and put the boot on. Hopefully, that boot will stay on 2 days. I still do not know why if it was his front foot that was hurting he kept acting like it was his back leg that was hurting. After it blew, then he starting giving on that front foot.
