Hahahaha I have 2 like that also! Then when they went broody they were quiet…? Crazy birds!

Poor Fluffy needs some cleaning of her head puff, I think she brushed against something outside yesterday and got muddy.

Might just trim it up when I do Mr P’s nails and coiffe 😊

Awwwww so cute thanks for sharing! ❤️💕

that’s an awesome egg! And I thought big, can’t wait to see how big they get!

(Good use of paragraphs BTW 😊)

Oooo such lovely wattles and comb 🥰🥰 is that a spot or shavings on her back?
Shavings. 😊

Hey all. Been away a few days and you end up missing so much. Tried to skim...too much to quote folks. Those of you with poor health, chicken tragedies, awful weather issues...I'm thinking of you all.

A ton of covid posts! I had it once, back in April 2020. And May 2020. That first version lasted forever! Sickest I've ever been in my entire life. I ended up in the ICU for 6 days, hospital for 10, and consider myself lucky! They talked ventilator for the first 4 days. I squeeked by. You bet I had every vaccine and booster after that...even though they ALL have made me sick as a dog; fever, chills, aches, etc. But 2 days of that is better than 10 days in the hospital and 7 weeks off work! Thank God I had sick leave!

My little flock is still happy, healthy, and giving us lots of eggs. :) Here's my best twofers...I can never get decent photos.

That Roo of yours is sooooooo cute! and I love his saddle blanket marking. Like a Medicine Hat Paint horse (the top of the head on the horse has a dark cap) very distinctive! Your girl is looking for treats I bet!

So aweful to hear you so ill, I hear ya - I was really ill also with the evil covid - I vaccinate everything here for everything hahahaha so yep I get all my stuff also (I used to also get rabies as I was handling wildlife - we joke that I am getting my 'rabies shot' now). If I could vaccinate my chickens for everything I would.

But my backup large animal / horse Vet told me here in Ontario the vaccines are only given at commercial hatcheries and not 'backyard' flocks - WTH! that's ridiculous - in fact I find that the fact there is very little Veterinary care for backyard flocks awful!

When I hear about some here online that are trying to get Vet attention for their chickens I cry - it's such a sad thing. I feel so lucky and grateful that my small animal Vet has her own flock (and cattle and horses :) ) and she does some specialty work with birds in general. I know I will pay through the nose for Vet care for my wee charges but it is wonderful that I can take my kiddos to someone who knows poultry.

My primary Equine Vet (who is semi-retired) can and does get me meds and wormers for my chickens; I can also send fecal samples to a lab through him for testing for parasites. I am sure that he would 'take stab' at helping one of my kiddos if need be, he has been around the Vet world for a very long time, so I trust him if I needed help (of course half the year he is in Florida hahahaha hence my small animal Vet as my primary Chicken Vet).

Does anyone else have issue with Vet Care or getting meds? How about vaccinating - anyone get their chickens done, or purchase chicks who are vaccinated? Just curious as to what chickens can receive for preventive measures.

hahaha - thought so :)

Well I threw up again. I managed to feed the chicks and chooks. Wanting to spend time with them today and get some updated photos. Just a few days from hatching silkies. They were nice and dark yesterday.
I am very eggcited to see what hatches! More babies yay!

Two-fer Tuesday. (Ignore Mozzarella) Grandma is not interested in digging in the dirt.

We still have snow here - ugh! Hi Grandma you are looking very nice today!

What a perfect Two-fer Tuesday. LOVE them both! But no chicken prints in the snow, so how did they get there? There has to be a story behind that!
Hey yes just noted that!

Are you calling yourself "cabbage head"?
In their eyes I am likely a good source of protein to go with that Cabbage hahahah!

He's a cockerel!! I thought a pullet until I saw spurs. And look at the COMB!!!
In my limited experience spurs do not necessarily mean cockerel - Popcorn has a great set of spurs, not huge but a good inch, maybe inch and a half long, curled and pointed, and she's def not a roo. How do the feathers look on this one? Hackels, tail, etc.? Any crowing?

I think we had established that on Pony Sunday those of us without horses could classify other 4-legged friends as ponies.
At the time we were talking goats and cows, but I think rabbits should definitely count!
I agree, Sunday is for Land Chickens, Hairy Chickens, and in this case it could be Long-Eared Chickens :gig

Oh those bunnies are adorable. I'm sorry they passed. About 18 years ago now I had a bunny named Daisy that looked just like them. She was a evil little thing and of the two I loved her the most. She was distrustful when we got her, never a cuddle rabbit. When she chose to sit on your lap or in the bed with you, that was a win. I also agree that you have a little cockerel on your hands. That rust color on his wings, that is a male pattern coloring.

Manny says thank you. 😊

I hate to admit, but I hadn't even looked into a chicken vet. I live in a very rural area and just figured if the need arose I'd call the closest one. Truthfully around here I might get a "just eat them" response if I called because of an injury. That's how people are. I thought that was how I'd be...but I'm too attached. I need to think about medicine. I will ask my closest neighbor with chickens what she does.

I'm sorry Dixie has died 😔
I may be wrong here but when Tina was pale, I added a little cayenne pepper to her food and it really helped with her circulation
Thank you, i’ll give it a shot. She seems so depressed and is just hiding in a corner and eating bedding. I will add some to scrambled eggs
