Oh, look girls, yummy oyster shell (that you girls flicked on the ground JUST SO I could tidbit for you!) :rolleyes:View attachment 3479622
Oh, I think Mom's got something - lets get there first! (poor roo doesn't stand a chance...already being left in the dust!)
Poor Mr P he tries to tidbit but the girls most ignore him. Rose has taken a shine to him lately.

If you had told me 3 weeks ago that Gryffyn would be successful I would not have fully believed you. I honestly almost did not set her. I would not have set her last year as I have been fighting her and her sisters egg eating behavior for over a year now. They both went broody last year but were never given eggs as they could not stop eating every egg they found. If Flurry goes broody as well this year I will give her a chance as well. I do not know why and I am NOT complaining but both girls have went 2 months without eating a egg. I also thought we had a disaster happen when Louis covered the eggs and I found all 4 cold a little over a week in. These 2 are little miracles in my opinion.
Always stressful dealing with babies of any species they are so fragile and require a lot of attention. Maybe they just needed to grow up a bit..?

I am just really happy she has her babies - when the other goes broody I would let her try hatching - making her a momma might be the thing they both need ❤️

How old do they need to be? They turn 4 in November. If she continues to avoid egg eating Flurry will get her chance as well if she chooses to go broody. She will soon enough. She spent over half of last summer broody but eating every egg she came across. Like Gryffyn when the time comes she will be given 4 egg the first time around. If Gryffyn does well with these chicks next time around that big fluffy booty is getting at least 12. Honestly, she is big enough I could easily stuff about 16 under her and she would have no problem covering them all. Flurry while smaller could handle a dozen herself.

Surely the boss must have not understood how serious it was. Otherwise that is an insane request!
I think they understand but just don't care. Too many companies only see employees as resources to be used up. For example where I work our online service tickets, there's no tab for looking up service techs as in the previous version. We are now listed under the resources tab. I like my super and manager but the further you go up the chain they see you as a number or a resource, not a person.

She has a bit of a messy beak. She hasn't wiped it on me yet! I have been trying the hens out on fermented feed because they have been making a big mess of their dry food, spreading it all over. They love it and gobble it right up so far.

I assume you mean 3.42857

Nope, 3.14159265359 'around the clock'

Tax will have to come tonight! I had a no-show appt., so popped in.

I will say, all that rain, I ended up taking 2 wheelbarrows full of wet bedding out of the run last night, and another before work this morning. Put in a wheelbarrow full of new wood chips and a whole bale of shavings....and it seems like it barely made a dent in what needs to be done!

The older wood chips that have been in there since early fall are starting to degrade - that plus the chooks mixing it up with the leaves and bedding that were put on top, and it was a sopping mess. I have my work cut out for me for the next few nights. Thank goodness I do have some covered parts! I put a bunch of bedding down in the far end of the run, too, where it drains better, as I know I won't get to mucking that out this week. And we are supposed to get more rain every day but Tuesday of this week!

My gang gets soaked ration every morning, I pour hot water over their layer ration and let it soak while I feed the horses.

They love it and gobble it up, it’s also handy because I put the small dusty bits in and make the mash, that way I am not wasting it throwing it out.

It’s hilarious in the morning, I let them out and they all pile around me fighting over the big bowl that I scoop it out from, into smaller bowls.
