Just a question to put out to y'all:
Yesterday, my hen Knokalina (Funny name, don't laugh, please!) laid a TINYYYYY egg. It was like a fairy egg was a fairy egg. It had calcium deposits on the shell, and I will post the pic of it compared to another regular-sized egg. What is going on with her? I cracked the egg this morning for breakfast, and it had a TINY WHINY yolk in there, and was fertilized, a lot.
It tasted fine and all. Should I be concerned??
Others are more experienced, but I've read here that fairy eggs once in a great while shouldn't be a concern. If she consistently produces weird eggs that would be concerning. Is she new to laying? New layers can lay a fairy egg at first.

Not an unusual problem. Just today I was trying to imagine a gutter system on our garage/barn that would be at "man height" and more manageable, and feed some potential garden boxes next to the garage. Something sticking out over the garage doors, feed across and down at one corner of the barn. But be easy to take down for winter.

PS I am on a lot today because I sprained my ankle yesterday and can't do much outside or anywhere, all that stuff that has been keeping me too busy to be on....
I'm so sorry to hear that. How long will you be with us, I mean laid up?

Would you mind terribly stopping by to explain this fact to Nellie, in great detail? She's the loudest, noisiest hen here. If ANYONE is in the coop (or near where she wishes to lay: translate if she can SEE), she buk buk bukkawk loudly enough I can here her at the opposite end of the house, inside, with al windows/doors shut. Horus is demonstrating he inherited her vocal abilities, too.
There is always one that breaks the rules. Mine are very business like about it. 😆

Real sorry to hear you hurt you ankle - annoying isn't it when you want to do stuff but can't! I sure hope you heal fast 💖

Hah! I guess a few days? I did catch up on some computer chores and things, but not all. I need to renew my membership on BYC for one!

I can get around on a cane, but DH has researched it and told me to really baby it now so it heals correctly. He's waiting on me hand and foot which is kind of nice and great inducement for laying low.

I took no pictures today though. Babies on my mind - seriously looked into more chickens earlier this Spring but decided not this year. I think I can house two more with the summer heat in the existing coop, 6 is the limit with standard size, but generally can't get just two, and three is an odd number re pairing up / buddies, so it would have to be four then (chicken math at work).

That means probably another coop if I get one like I have. It would also reduce integration stress for the existing Gang Of Four to have the new pullets roost in their own coop while still sharing the run. Of course we will then watch them all try to pile into one coop every night, which while they're small should work, but having a second coop is still a good idea.
