The Tweens

Well @RoyalChick I forgot to plug the brooder plate in last night when I put the tweens to bed. The office/feed room is set around 17C, not by any means hot, warm at best.

I checked them last night around 1 am and they were I snacking - not sure if being a bit chilly contributed to the midnight snack.

This morning they were eager to get out so I let them out to run around - just checked the camera and they are roosting on the steps I use for the gang to get up on the ledge in the hen house.

They seem to have been almost fully integrated into the main group. Just wish Henny Penny would have taken an interest in them.

How old are the Tweens?
My babies are not yet 3 weeks old and still seem very tiny. That said they survived their night in the 40s just fine. I herded them under the heat plate as it got dark (not easy). I checked the cameras periodically and one got out and got lost in the dark and was bleating piteously - but then found its way back. And this morning they are full of beans.

The vanilla flavored one says “Why so serious?”
(I haven’t learned the names yet)

I only have a name for the Penelope chick - Penne

I have been calling the cotton balls by their colour - grey one, yellow chickie, odd one.

I really want odd one to be “Shakespeare “ or Mr S - it looks like their feathers are coming in so hopefully I can get them gender checked in the next couple weeks.

23 days today, just over 3 weeks. They are about the size of a small robin.

Oh yes my trio are full of beans also!

Finding way back in the dark is HUGE. means they're doing GREAT!

Who is under there?

The weather got better there? Nice! It seems my weather got *worse* (better?) here, because we need RAIN, and the dust is flying everywhere. It seems there is going to be a drought this year in Alberta. It is soooo hot, yesterday I had to drive the whole hour to Leduc to get some ice cream. And, to top things off, I lost my ice cube trays...

There are lots of wildfire warnings, and lots of them telling us to evacuate. This whole evacuation thing never happened before, even when there was a wildfire out of control.
