Philomena (Buff Orrington chick) was so sad when I took her poo away. She wanted to eat it.

Funny, very funny. I cannot help I declare at hatch certain ones had better be girls. Actually until proven otherwise all chicks hatched are girls. It is at 3 weeks on I start looking for signs that are going to break my heart. Early wattles, bigger red combs, and certain color hues to feathers or red feathers where they should not be on the Marans and Marans mixes. The first 6 chicks turn 3 weeks old Sunday. I shall start staring very hard at them for the next few weeks.

I am going to do the gender dna on the silkie chicks so I can make sure to keep the Roo and raise up with Mr P.

He has started to take an interest in them today. The mamas seem to have settled - they had their brawls and seem more content. Oh tis the way of the chicken.

Hopefully one is a Roo!

My latest worry with Eli is the temperature. It is up in the 80s and she is panting.
I have left a little cat food can with water in her nest. I caught myself worrying about the eggs if she spilled it. They aren’t real eggs!
I have also topped up all her favorite wild water spots in case she comes out on her own.
I am sure I am overthinking this but I do worry about her!

Which one do you want to be a boy the most? I shall declare it a girl, and that it will come live with me when it is old enough. That alone will turn it into a roo.

I never actually knew when Jaffar’s hatchday was. The previous family he came from, said in the spring. So I’m designating today may12 as his birthday number 2 for each year. His. Number 1 birthday is near Christmas. Happy birthday Jaffar you great rooster you!
