Mazzie is adorable, and I think you have a winner, but some of mine are going to give it a go anyway.

First up is Sylvie. That is now her name with due respect Bob's lovely baby Sylvie that lived for too short a time at FBA. 💔

Sylvie is my front runner in this competition. Her main attributes are that she has some places with beautiful, perfect little feathers. And some baby fluff. And some completely bald patches. It is her neck that lets her down.

I present you Miss Sylvie’s bad hair day.

Next up is Piglet who is in better shape than Sylvie but whose feathers seem to go in random directions, and as a chick who enjoys flying she is often exposing her completely naked pits!

Tassels is not really a contender but does generally prefer the rumpled look.

Calypso refused to participate and is looking rather splendid with a complete tail in place.

And finally, Winnie doesn’t understand all the fuss. She is almost completely feathered and even has the rose tinted chest she will have as an adult. She wanted everyone to understand that in this photo she had not yet had her bath and put everything in place. She likes to look ‘just so’.

So just to settle my mind

Sylvie: Silver Welbar
Piglet: opal legbar
Winnie: cream legbar
Tassels: French marans based olive egger
Calypso: a black beauty.

Hilarious.
OK, I will concede Mazzie for Gold.
I still think Sylvie should get Silver (appropriately)!
I do not know, Sylvie at the moment may just beat Mazzie for gold. Only for a day or two though, once those pin feather's open up Mazzie will once again take the gold. I feel so bad for making fun of the chicks.

I don't really watch movies.
I am not little. I am quite big. And my feet are not hairy.
I don't like wearing shoes at all though. You got that part right.
Read the book, much better and a classic, Tolkien was a wonderful author, he wrote extremely vivid, and fanciful tales ♥️ Lovely tales to pass the time reading quietly.

Here is a synopsis of the book:

Some story tellers have wonderfully vivid imaginations and an understanding of how to entertain their audiences. They are true Bards.

I'm seriously thinking of asking my doctor for some pain relief. I can't take codeine.

What do you take?
I am taking Pregabalin and Tramacet (if you can't take codeine then you can't take this) at night for my RLS & pain, plus I take Celebrex to help with inflammation from my Arthritis/Spondylosis.

I would ask your GP for Celebrex, it's a Cox-2 anti-inflammatory med, which means it is easy on the stomach. I prefer Naproxen as it works wonderfully, but it is very hard on the stomach, so I save it for my migraines (love for my migraines - works great!).

These are the chicks that Henny Penny hatched and they are 6 weeks in this photo - they seem to be fully feathered (good thing too as it's Nov in that photo!)

Oh I almost forgot a quick broody Eli update - she moved back up to the upper level (which is now empty because I took the golf ball and ceramic egg out last night). So she is sitting on nothing.
Babs has moved in to the lower one. I think she is just laying her own daily egg, but she has been in there for a while.
I cannot cope with two of them. Poor Bernie is all on her own with the babies.
Well being broody is contagious they say. Though so far all I have had are Fluffy and Curly.

What are the odds of Bernie going broody? is her breed known for this? Imagine if you will, 3 of them all at once being broody! I actually don't mind them being broody, they are contained and other than my dragging them off the nest a couple times a day, they stay in one spot so I can easily count them. Like having a baby - feed, change diapers, sleep... It's when they are Teens they are trouble haha!

I am going to owe taxes and will post later when I can get my photos posted.

Been a while since I was active, gonna post and then catch up. My semester is over! I passed my classes!

Put wood chips down in the run since the chicks have managed to kill all the grass already.

It being poo and sand was grossing me out so bad.

Something about the wood chips makes this feel so official.

Electric netting went up.

So now there's more room to explore, although I'd like to get some more shade going and some more interesting things in the area.

And the water tank got an autofiller and updated cups. The cups don't drip!
IMG_20230516_184950.png IMG_20230516_185605.png
I originally had some knockoff rac cups, which is the bottom one in that pic. They dripped like crazy!

The integration of the hen and rooster into the chick flock is as good as it's going to get, I think, until the chicks begin laying. They avoid her and stay out of her way, but she doesn't chase them and peck at them.
IMG_20230515_172438.png
It's also crazy to see them side by side, since most of the barred rocks are practically the same size as her.

My rooster, who is still skittish of me, is no longer panicked at the very sight of a human shadow. And his comb and wattle, which were scabbed and pecked at when I first got him, are showing vast improvements.

Ok. They have plenty of shade, including the Tree of Peace. We live in a dry, dry, desert. Therefore, almost no humidity.
Thank you for your help! :)
Dry heat is better, the humidity is very hard on chickens (well everything to be truthful).

If you have a large fan, you can put it into the coop to help move air around. Your coop/run looks really good and open and airy.

I also take Celebrax and pregabalin for pain and inflamation.

Calypso: a black beauty.
You are good!
Calypso is an Ameraucana - from a line of show birds not an Easter Egger by another name. She is indeed a black beauty - I need to get some pictures of her - she already has a fabulous tail and like Tassels she is mostly feathered but with a bit of a rumpled look around the neck.
You know how I love black chickens so she and Tassels just take my breath away.
Tassels' tassels turned black a week or so ago - they were pale grey before that.
I think her heritage is Marans x Ameraucana but I may have got that wrong. You know - pretty black chicken and I am done!
