Disaster struck my little coop.

Last Sunday I got two new hens,bear and fifi

I was so excited and made a post about them last Sunday showing them off. But the next day when I went to check on them a fox had destroyed the coop and took bear(the white hen) with him and left fifi(the black hen) alone,in shock and terrified.
I then got in contact with the person I bought them from and he said I could pick up another hen today, so fifi wouldn’t be alone anymore yay!!
Fifi had a very hard time recovering from loosing her best friend, didn’t really eat and didn’t really have any spirit left in her but I have hope, as she has gotten better

Today I went and picked up another isabell marans just a little bit more lavender in color than bear and put her with fifi, so far it’s going okay they have exchanged some small little clucks and seem to get along. I should note that fifi and the new hen has been together since they hatched and came from the same place so they do know each other but aren’t as close as fifi and bear was

They are right now inside for the night and tomorrow will go to a coop but they will sleep inside at night so they don’t get hurt again and so the fox can’t get them

I hope fifi will get recovered from shock soon with the company of the new friend. Fifi is very pretty.

Eli hung out with the Littles. No blood was shed.
Babs gave Sylvie a quick peck on the head but I can’t blame her because she was trying to eat and Sylvie came up to her and pecked her on the face. Sylvie pecked first!
There is a lot of chest bumping going on as the littles establish their pecking order.
Sylvie is particularly active in these little fights. Gulp. Might she be a little boy?
Piglet and Pooh get into it with each other a lot too.
I have officially hit mayhem stage.
Finally I am worried about Eli. I am hoping it is just broody?/not-broody? hormones, but I can’t forget she was sick before she went broody. She isn’t eating a lot and she is sitting like this with her rump up in the air. Any thoughts?

Awww. Thank you for asking.
Well she came out of the nest early.
I saw her drink on her own and she ate a good amount of venison stew.
I haven’t seen her poop yet and it is too early to see how energetic she is. I thought she ate rather delicately compared to Babs and Bernie who went at the food like jackhammers.
I also can’t interest her in commercial food - pellets, crumble, or mash.
Hopefully she will pick up during the day.

These people are impossible to live with. Just imagine having that guy living in your home.

This guy tgis morning must have kept banging his doors because I couldn't work out why I was awake, then kept hearing car doors slamming and head lights blaring.

He was so lucky I wasn't dressed or I'd of gone out and gave him a good old ear bashing.

People like that make me mad.
Maybe get some farther spray or something. Then spray it in his car. From what I can tell, he thinks he is tough. If he is, we shall se if he can stand the farty scent.
Or get some of that cecal poop on his car. Preferably the handle of the door.

First time I tried it too small and today, the second time it was better. I did her eyes reallly well.

First Introduction
Well the chicks made a break for it this morning, so I let them out. They were actually fairly easy to herd around.

Then t hey met the bossy group and the Tweens.....

I was sitting out there for a good hour. My brick seat was damp from the rain the night before....

Sorry for the chuckle - but I was doing that last week sitting on the wet cedar railing - brrrr!
