Girls, there will be a hatch day party for Hen-Rietta July 6 11:00 am pst. You are all invited to join us. There will be a cornbread cake and outdoor activities for everyone. Tulare County rural
Route 144 . Dress casual :D 🥳
July 6 is the Buckeyes hatchday too! Three years old. (Although I suspect Butters hatched a day earlier). We’ll be celebrating with you!

Seriously though, how do you get them in? My evening was completely ridiculous running around in the undergrowth (and now I need to do a tick check).
I feel some kind of herding tool is needed!
If you need a tool, maybe a couple hand towels? A cape? Some people use a long branch like a pine bough. I found I need both a left and right side and to quickly use both or either, so now just use my hands. I put my hands out low and out to the side, spread my fingers and sort of do “jazz hands” quickly flipping my hands along the axis of my wrist.

They know that move, even just a quick wiggle - as opposed to a steady slow reach for something near them, where they stay put - and I herd them that way. Unless they’re really recalcitrant it works. (Butters kept trying to make a big circle back to where she really wanted to go just the other day. I eventually herded her to nest a wall and picked her up. It wasn’t hard, because she realized she couldn’t convince me to let her go where she wanted and just stopped moving ❤️ .)

The big reveal for the new hair do

Not bad if I do say so….

Also my voice and words, they know my intention then. Like they will crowd the run door if I approach, and I let them know if I’m letting them out or if they need to move back so I can get through (sometimes a wiggling hand is reinforcement on that).

I have a really great branch. It has a nice gentle curve and some smaller branches off it and is long and light enough for me to use.
It works with some.
Some simply jump on it. And that is fine because then I can move the branch to where I need them.
Others however - naming no names Sylvie and Piglet - simply jump over it like they are skipping rope.

:he

Here is a sweet well behaved little Princess who would never ever run back outside once I got all her sisters rounded up! Am I right Pooh? :gig
