Yes, I did watch the video. I am going to do soak her soon.
Should I keep her on my porch, or let her back out with everyone else, and just take her in everyday for treatment?
Personally I would let her out provided that you have used the donut ring under her foot.
That way she will be able to walk without further damaging her foot.
I am sure she will be happier if she is allowed to be out and about.

Any idea what this is? I'm thinking mites, because Splotch has it too. They got it while I was away, and Pastel was not in there with them during that time. Edit- sorry about the second photo

Yup. That looks like bumble foot. It does not look like the infection has spread so an oral antibiotic is not necessary.

You do need to start soaking. I would look to remove it as in the video if you think you can. What does everyone else think?
Just ignore me - I will shut up and let RC & Bob handle this - they are experts. Sorry, I should not have interjected.

Agreed! Soak, remove as able - and if all of the infection doesn't come out/off with the scab, you most likely can get the 'kernel' with tweezers. Then treat with betedin and antibiotic ointments ( use whatever @BY Bob recommended previously for disinfectant & ointments)) wrap well (not too tightly, but snug enough to keep the dressing on under the wrap). (Again, no pressure directly on the wound.)

Others, pipe in please (@BY Bob @RoyalChick , et al.). If you think you got all of the infection, and 'treated' it well, it can probably go 48 hours before checking. If you have any doublt about getting all of the infection, in 24 hours, take bandage off, check redo treatment, and re-wrap.)

NOTE: Infections in chickens are not 'puss filled" infections turn into hard kernels or 'lines' that must be pulled out. Any white/whitish 'kernel' is an infection...pull out with tweezers - as much as possible!

I'm so glad you were able to find some. This is why I am always saying, have a lot of stuff ready to go. Don't wait until you need it. Then you may not be able to find it in time.
Well, this is a medication that we will be unable to get once they sell out. So I would triple heart this post if I could!

According to tractor supply they are able to sell what stock they currently have BUT they will not be getting any more in and in the future I will need a prescription.

In the process of doing this, I found one vet that would see a chicken. They wanted $61.00 for the appointment alone not including medication or any tests they might have chosen to run. 😱 the ointment I got expires in one yr. I can only hope they change something about this rule before then because I am sincerely concerned about the consequences for backyard folks.

I see both sides of the argument, I do. I just hope for a middle ground that makes more sense for everyones needs.

@Pastel The Rooster. You will need help if you try and remove it. Be sure you don't try to do that yourself.
So, @BY Bob is, of course, correct! I do it by myself - but that is because generally speaking -I have to. Either way - alone or with someone, I still suggest wrapping her well in a towel to prevent her from flapping around and generally causing mayhem. Even with someone else holding her - if they aren't great at it, she will get a wing free and cause a ruckus!

For soaking her and just wrapping her foot I can do it myself, but when it's time to remove the infection, I will certainly get help.
