OK well I have to get cracking here, this is a long weekend (Canada Day July 1st, long weekend). Today I need shavings so I am off to the mill to grab some.

Monday morning I need to put up hay, I have 300 bales waiting for me that need to be moved here, my youngest niece is going to come over and help out. I imagine the 2 of us should be able to get them in. As long as it doesn't rain that is!
Beautiful fluffy butts!!! Wow, that is a-lot of bales to move.

A fluffy bit for friday....only a butt...View attachment 3560915Yes, they still fit through the door.
This made me laugh but also panic a bit. Mine are still going in their little door to the brooder box at night. They are roosting in there not huddling in the cardboard tray.
I still haven't tried closing the door so they can't get in. In part I am curious when they decide it is too much of a squeeze!

My dad made a very dangerous comment earlier. Told me we needed to build a pen. I asked him why. He replied so I could occasionally pen up Chiquita and Branch. Again why? He replied, "well everyone seems to like those silly silkies, i bet you could sell a lot of fertile hatching eggs or chicks." Why yes, yes I need a pen built. Not for Branch and Chiquita though. I get a breeding pen built, maybe having just 1 boy hatch out of the silkie eggs might not be such a bad thing after all. I now must nag him. We have most of the materials on hand already. Let's have a weekend project soon.

I gave up on catching up... It's been a busy, uh, 8 weeks? 6 weeks?

My pullets-- they're ALL pullets!, I'm so glad I picked up a rooster for free-- have stopped chirping and now cluck. I'm so sad... they grew up so fast. They were just little puffs of fluff back in spring. I'd been planning on processing the extra roos, but... I don't have any. So... I guess I'll just have wayyyy too many eggs.

I did some demolition in my laundry room, which leaves me with a couple narrow cabinets that I'm going to repurpose into nesting boxes.

The rooster continues to be a good fella. But... he's very small. The barred rocks and easter eggers are both larger than him, and I think they're 15 weeks.

He's such a well behaved fella, I'm really not complaining. It's just kind of funny to compare him to Richard the Rooster at uni, who's a huge RIR. Still skittish of me, but it's no longer defcon5 when I approach the run.

I got a "real" salary job at my university, and I've been having a ton of fun with that! But so busy. That's what I've been caught up with lately.
Happy you are good busy doing interesting and exciting things. Great luck on all those pullets, maybe buy a lottery ticket ;) cute Roo may he stay kind and be good to your girls.

Sorrythat I wasnt here the last day or two-
Yesterday I needed to run my dog to the ER because he couldn't lay down and had immense uncomfort in his stomach area. He ended up having Food Bloat because he ate 8 meals, and because he eats to fast. I have no idea how he got eight meals...
I was up until 4AM with him at the ER, and I was hardly tired while we were there.

Then while I was asleep this morning, I guess an egg in my incubator exploded, and so my mom needed to throw the rest of the eggs out. I'm really bummed out.

I'm going to try to catch up here, just may take a little.
Awwww sorry to hear that kiddo, I was hoping for an egg to hatch.

You mum did the right thing. How is you pup ?

Oooo I like your Dada - he can come visit any time 😊

He can even ride my A-rab if he likes ❤️

I made a neighbor angry today.. I warned him about the weather (Excessive Heat Warning) going to be very hot this weekend. I asked him if there’s enough water and cooling stations in his yard? I mentioned that “remember, chickens are people too!” He didn’t like me saying that! He’s not a good person to have so many animals in his home.

Glad to see you! Love your little Roo he looks like a lovely boy ❤️

And all pullets that’s hilarious! The three silkie chicks I shoved under my broodies are also all pullets - I was wanting a little rooster - oh well!

Glad you got a job that’s awesome news! We can send you the weekly synopsis for the past month or so if you want - let us know ❤️

My only fluffy butts today are a manly rooster butt and a broody butt!

Really hot in the coop. 102...but I re-wet the towel and watered down the building and got it to just over 100. No one seems very distressed. Especially Zen-Mama Eenie, who remains, calmly and firmly in place. The nest box remains 5 or more degrees cooler than the coop.

I was surprised to find two of her eggs in the nest next door this morning! I don't know if she knocked them out on purpose but I put them back under her. Two more days til I candle!
Glad everyone is coping better today, can’t wait to see what shows up on the candling ❤️
