Baby Silkies are gone 😢

I took them down to their own home.

I also got a look at the chicks hatched from my eggs. Here are some of the silkie crosses.

Almost 100% sure this is a Marty baby

Soooo cute!!!

Part of me really would love silkies. But, I'm happy with my barnyard mutt-chickens.

Found an article on heat and chicks on here that says 95 to 100 the first week, down by 5 degrees every week after. So, I think we're okay here.

I really want my new coop. If I know us though, it'll be spring before it's done. :idunno

Awwwwww 😁

Likely would have been toast here 😳
I think Bernie would have got it - but somehow wasn't interested. Babs went after it, but it was quite fast and Babs got distracted by some Artemisia pruning when she was chasing it. And relative to Sylvie it was quite big.

Yes they can become too hot, just keep an eye on mama and keep her cool. Also my chicks where quite happy to be running around in temps around the mid 50F at 1 week, they would run under the brooder plate to warm up and right back out again.

Broody silkie mama hens had their wee babies out by day 3 scratching around in the Hen House and it was not very warm, again in the 50s. I would just keep an eye on them and make sure they are not heat stressed, panting and what not - newborns can’t regulate their temperature at first, but I would say by the time they are 2 weeks old they should be running around everywhere with mama.

Hmmmm now I wonder were my lot have got to….

I don't think Mr.P would do much harm to a bunny, he sounded the alarm in that clip you shared, anyone would have thought it was a huge wolf 🐺 hahaha 😆 😂. That was so funny 😁 😂
And last week there was a chipmunk in the barn which made everyone run for cover hahahahaha - wimps!
