That is a big branch. My gosh. Fingers crossed you don't get storms tonight.Chicken Palace drama
There is a massive - think maybe 6’ circumference - branch about to come down from the big tree that shades the Chicken Palace.
It is resting on some lower branches which are bent to breaking point.
If it comes down it will likely do a lot of damage.
I called the local tree guy and he will come first thing in the morning with someone who can climb up and deal with it. I can’t even imagine how!
I just have to hope that there are no strong winds between now and the morning when they get here.
Of course while I was out showing the tree guy the issue the skies opened so I am completely drenched.
Need to go in and dry off and then go back out to give the Princesses fresh water.
Dangerous trees tax: Piglet!

It is called a Tulip tree. It actually flowers and the flowers are shaped like tulips but are green and not very showy. Incidentally the Princesses - particularly Bernie and Babs love the fallen petals which are quite large.Awww they grow so fast!!!
That’s a lovely tree is it a Sycamore?
That is the messaging component, and yep it’s annoying, you can disable the auto-alerts.My Dad uses Teams but I don't! They fly up and interrupt my BYC sessions!
They are beautiful like your countryside. Lucky ladies to be with you. I'm glad they are settling in laying wise. Hopefully they will be with you for a long time. This a repost, but I thought it would make a nice twofer for @BY Bob.

And a few more photos of these freedom loving ladies..the trust building phase is taking time ! Alba's comb flops to the left and Nieva to the right.
They are still laying 5 to 6 times a week, but no more double yolk or soft shell. I think they are getting better health wise, they used to have very pale yolks compared to all my other hens, and now they have turned much more orange like the other layers.

Do you have a photo! That is huge.6 feet - it is definitely a 'flatten you' kind of branch and it is resting on some other also big branches that have been weighed down and are at risk of snapping.
It is a massive tree - I would say 100' or maybe more - I will ask the tree guys tomorrow - and this is one of the big main branches maybe 40' up.
It is scary.
Last fall it shed a branch that was more like 8" in diameter that missed the roof of the Chicken Palace by inches - and that made a huge thud when it hit the ground.
Agreed!Maybe you should get them to trim any other branches that could present a threat while they are up there.
And ask about the health of the tree itself. It's not a good sign that it's main branch is falling.
Oh yes that would be my second guess - a cucumber magnoliaIt is called a Tulip tree. It actually flowers and the flowers are shaped like tulips but are green and not very showy. Incidentally the Princesses - particularly Bernie and Babs love the fallen petals which are quite large.
Its Latin name is Liriodendron tulipifera and I think it is actually in the Magnolia family.
It is a native to the Northeastern part of the US (and I assume up into Canada too) Liriodendron tulipifera
Yes. I can repixel them to be the proper resolution.Like magic?!
They grow pretty fast. I have one of its children that I let be in the field for the last two years and it is already a good 10-12' tall and with a lovely shape.Oh yes that would be my second guess - a cucumber magnoliaI have one out in the back paddock - it’s just a youngster I planted it about 8 years ago.
I will be long gone before it gets that size![]()
