We've never tried tube feeding. We do it with a syringe. Put the antibiotic in one syringe, the vitamins in another, and a bigger capacity syringe for the wet feed which is ground in a blender. It will sometimes clog but I believe it to be less stressful on us and the chicken.Yes we do think she is making good progress! Her comb color is still concerning and the vet did not really have anything to say when we brought it up...
Light eats a lot of things and she currently loves cabbage (chopped), zuccini (chopped), sometimes water melons. Yesterday at dinner, we also fed her some very tender pork and she LOVED IT so much. She repeatedly made her excited noise (kinda like tidbit) and scoffed down the pork.
Unfortunately, she would not eat the prescribed soft meal on her own. She finds it disgusting...
I am not a good tube feeder yet. Yesterday morning, the tube came out of the syringe because the content was too thick so we had to do it a second time. For yesterday evening's tube feeding, the mix was coming out of her beak in the very end. I guess I did not send the tube down far enough? She was fine, nothing got into her airway, but I felt like she was traumatized. This morning, I made the same mistake of making too thick of a food paste and the tube came out of the syringe in the middle of it again... Sigh. We did not try again.
Those temperatures are tough to deal with. You did a wonderful job with the shade cloth! Even lowering the temperature a few degrees will help out a lot.The shade cloth is up, or, as I call it, the black sails. It's still very breezy today, with the wind coming from the south and going right in the doors, so the fans are not woth bothering with. I know the shade will help the run. Hopefully the coop. Is currently 96 out and in the coop...also 96. At least it's not hotter inside. Eenie and the triplets aren't panting. There's plenty of cold water, electrolytes, and damp earth for everyone outside. That's about all I can do. Can't wait to have a better coop.
They've actually lowered the temps in the forecast. Hopefully they lower more. View attachment 3590785

I had the opposite experience - I find passing a tube to be relatively easy now I practiced it and once in, the chicken seemed unconcerned about it. With a syringe I was constantly worrying that it wasn't still in the right place. We've never tried tube feeding. We do it with a syringe. Put the antibiotic in one syringe, the vitamins in another, and a bigger capacity syringe for the wet feed which is ground in a blender. All right. I will ask her. I have been harboring a question. She sure does. Anyone obviously. And I am out of questions at this point for sure.
Good job! I am heading into high 90s here for the next two days and then in theory it will break and get cooler. It is 'only' 90 right now and the chickens all seem fine in the deep, deep shade of the butterfly bush. Every now and then I hear them mutter to each other. The shade cloth is up, or, as I call it, the black sails. It's still very breezy today, with the wind coming from the south and going right in the doors, so the fans are not woth bothering with. I know the shade will help the run. Hopefully the coop. I was certain no one else would know what I was talking about but I forgot that you were still about. Shad might also know.I second Bobs vote! Cardhu was Andrew’s moms preferred Scotch. Beats Laphroaig hands down, both for naming and drinking qualities (a touch too peaty IMO)
