So, I decided to put up a different photo in my living room. And since I'm very scared of Grandma leaving us, I'm going to have a picture of all four of my chickens so we can remember them by. The same photo will also be in my room to replace the other picture that is currently hanging on the wall.
I already got the photos. Not what I was expecting but at least it makes up for the single-file line photo I lost.

Now which one should I choose? Lazy Grandma put her head down. I can't even see her face! She's afraid of falling or wants to see what's down there. Grandma, look at the camera for about 3 seconds, then go back to looking down. Oh crud. Tony blinked in the first photo... My chickens just hate taking photos like other chickens...

Remind me how old the chicks are? I have never put my young ones into the same coop/run until they were at least 6 weeks old.
Four weeks tomorrow (Sunday). Hatchday was July 31.
Don’t get despondent. I do know how you feel.
:hugs
Sadness seems to go with the territory, but remember what a happy life you are giving them.
Thank you. I know you know!
For what reason though?
I have only waited for the Marek’s vaccine to take fully - which the only academic paper I found on the topic said took 10 days. In practice I went with two weeks before I moved them into the Chicken Palace.
Right, my question is related to the potential load of viruses, bacteria, little bugs or whatnot putting them on the litter floor. I wouldn’t let them loose in there, that’s the integration issue. When you moved them they were in their little Royal Box for weeks, right? You didn’t use the Palace dirt /litter for the floor of the box did you?

Somebody really good at it could photoshop Grandma from the first picture into the second picture.

I think those are both great pictures!

Oh I see what you mean.
Technically from 3 weeks they were free to come and go as they chose - but I don't know that they spent that much time on the coop floor until about 4-5 weeks - but then they definitely did spend time on the old litter.
I think the theorists would say that the ideal thing would be to give them exposure in small doses rather than a full onslaught - so they can develop their immunities. Practically that might look like running around for a few hours during the day but still having their own environment for the rest of the time. I have never heard of anyone doing that in practice but it probably is the ideal 'integration' into their new microbiological environment!

These chicks are also ignoring all the manuals about how they need to be kept under heat. They have their own views.
