Do hope that both are BR, not 1 BR and 1 BSL. The sex links you can tell male from female by the white spot ion the head. BSL, boys have it, females don't!

For the BRs, you will be able to tell wit 95% accuracy male/female once they are fully feathered on the wings. Boys have as much or more white as black in the barring, females definitely have more black in the barring. (males get a 'double dose' of the barring gene, I believe. @rural mouse could be more specific on how the genetics work.) I will try to find a pic of an adult hen and adult roo BR so you can see what I mean. I'll edit this post in a few minutes once I scroll through and find suitable pics.

Okay, so maybe not the best photos, but they do display what I am talking about

Pic above - Roo left side, hen in front. Notice roo looks 'lighter' than hen...she has more black in the stripes, he has more white in the stripes.

Hen above - she is looking kind of ratty as it was just before her molt -but regardless, more black in the barring.

My night tree roosters - this is a young rooster above.

Here’s to hoping that they are both BR’s! Darn, I wanted a BSL!

Bumble foot?

Looks like it on the right one.

@RoyalChick - I think that some are just poo stuck to the foot. The right main foot pad looks like bumblefoot - the other I'm not so sure.

@Pastel The Rooster : soak the feet and clean them - see which actually has scabs and which spots are just dirt/poo stuck to the foot. I think right foot main pad is definitely bumble foot - the other spots could be early stages or just dirt/crud/poo. Good soak, scrub, and see where you are at after. Odd for a chick to have bumble foot!!!!

next time, have your dad check over the chicks carefully before accepting/buying them. Though, the chick is probably lucky it got you - as you noticed & will take care of it!!! At least it has a clean bottom :)

Okay, I’ll do that tomorrow. The other EE also has a bit of those small abrasions on her feet.
It is odd. I told my parents and they were wondering how a chick would get bumble foot. Very odd indeed.
I didn’t really expect him to get them, so I wasn’t able to ask him to look over them. Thank you, that means a lot. I’m also glad that they got me. First thing I did when I met them was check their bums!

Tribute Arrives
Imagine Aurora's surprise when a package arrived for her today.

I arranged the contents for her review.

Is that for me?!

There was a note inside so I read it to her.

The tributes were sampled before retiring for the evening.

She asked me to tell everyone she had taken your petition under advisement and will announce her decision soon.

(Actually she said "when she was ready" but that seemed too dismissive to me. I will work to get her to decide quickly. No promises.)
Thank you for making my evening - I am very much missing the goings on at BYC.

Please ask Aurora if she can make a decision soon as I have 3 broodies and 2 more this making about it; I do t want mum to worry about crazy hens!

Tell her she is beautiful and amazing 😊

Today. They've learned the drill. Opened the brooder, lay the plastic mesh brooder upper "door" like a ramp up to the tote on the desk, holding it on the edge of the tote and under it for a little support, and they jump or fly as far as they can toward it and climb the mesh to the tote edge. But the last one hung back today. Then looked like she didn't want to go and was walking away. But what she was doing was backing up and getting the proper flight angle (@featherhead007) to fly straight out onto the edge and bypass the mesh entirely!

Thought I'd bring them outside for a bit, but they immediately dustbathed and then sunbathed in the sun right there. So they had a grand time inside, hopping all around it, running on the mesh, the windowsill, watching DH on the lawn mower out the window, etc. (Don't worry food and water is in here too.)
