I'm still going to keep using it as it seems to be what works the best for my chickens. Unless there is a viable dirt like alternative that is better.
We switched after the bumblefoot thing to see if it helped them in terms of the amount of moisture in the coop and what not. It did reduce it quite a bit (and the dust baths-they would not stop).
What about dirt? That is pretty dirt-like.

I think bgmathteach beat you to it.
SHRA please? Preferably a Cream Legbar for Bob.
I just spotted that we both cited the same source - there are many, many other legit academic studies of this. Peat bogs are one of the few carbon traps we have. Harvesting peat moss not only releases the carbon, it also destroys the trap which takes eons to reestablish. This is like cutting down the Amazon rain forest to grow more cows for burgers. Just not a good thing.
It should matter more to you than to me as I will be long gone before the worst of the impacts come to pass. You will probably still be around.

And SHRA tax requires more than one chicken so here is Sylvie fully roosting with the grownups.

Doesn't have the properties my parents want for the chickens. They wanted something absorbent and soft for in their coop.
As I said, more your planet problem than mine. I have avoided peat moss for about 20 years when the data first started to be available. I find it weirdly shocking that it is still widely available in garden stores.

Cutting down a forest to raise cows?! Never heard that one before.
Oh, also. On the topic of "green" things: Next time you buy a phone, keep in mind that you should look at the fine text on the so-called "eco friendly" phones. Samsung uses a very small amount in their phones so they can say they are green. Just something to keep in mind.
There's a reason I buy used phones.

You mean Josephine's planet. She is the Empress. Don't forget Queen Aurora. (Josey said she'll settle for Texas).

Yes greenwashing is a big issue in many industries.
But you are joking about the forest and the cows right? I mean joking that you have never heard that one before?

Climate tax: Pooh
