I believe there must be some rule in the Chicken Palace that not more than two hens can lay. I got up to 4 with Sylvie and Piglet added to Bernie and Babs.
So Sylvie went broody and Bernie stopped laying.

It’s a double edge sword here, I want them to lay eggs, but I also don’t want them laying all the time. If they all laid 3 times a week that would be great 😊

I have been really good with the egg money paying for their feed, and some of the horses’ feed. Especially now with feed prices going so high.
 
It was in reference to his Wine. I don't imbibe. I do, however, guzzle H2O.

But, yes, I have also had IVs on occasion - one most recent was with a 2 day hospital stay last week that still didn't seem to shed light on my reason for being there and then being admitted. :(

Heritage BRs, Dark and Buff Brahmas (I like the light, too, but they are much more easily seen when free ranging.) Buff Orpingtons (though I'm open to other colors, this is all I've had, and I love them), Americaunas/Easter Eggers - love their Muffs and variety of colors in my flock; Welsummer.

Sorry @RebeccaBoyd I like the Copper Marans and Cuckoo Marans, but the Welsummers are just so friendly and lay SPECKLED eggs. Astralorps are good too, but had to draw the line somewhere - of next I would be adding polish and silkies, too!
I would send you polish x silkie eggs if you were closer 😊 I would love a couple of pullets like Floyd 😟

But I won’t risk any more Roos it’s too disheartening to try and ‘re-home’ them.

Now, dark Brahmas definitely, and a couple cuckoo Marans for the BR effect - have to be the French strain though with fuzzy legs 😊
 
Two-fer Tuesday

Just sitting here in the sun watching the chooks - wind is nippy but at least it’s sunny!

I have also fed chickens to my chickens, more than once. Our elderly neighbour gives us often left overs from the food his daughters cook for him and it's usually not stuff we want to eat, so it used to end up in the chickens plate, if it wasn't spoiled.They have had rotisserie chicken, couscous, cassoulet, boar and deer stew, and a number of old pastries that I didn't dare eat, due to that supply chain.
Now my elder ladies seem to have some trouble getting indigestions so we don't do that anymore.

I have a question regarding bone broth. I hope it doesn't come out offensive. It's not a thing here, but even if it was, the cost of gaz or electricity to boil broth for ten hours would only make it worth it if you had at least five liters of broth. It would be about the cost of a good rotisserie chicken, to give a reference. So now i’m wondering if energy is cheaper in the US , if you have special bone broth kitchen appliances that use less energy, or if it's something so incredible that it's worth the bill ?
I could imagine doing it on the wood stove..on a very cold day where we would keep it going all day long...

Many people do it in a pressure cooker. I admit I just do mine on the stove. I wonder what the cost is - it is boiled at a very low setting but indeed for a very long time.
