My chooks refuse to go to the coop. It’s raining kinda hard now. Everyone is hanging around under the porch. I see poor Jaffar, trying to fall asleep in the midst of his ladies.

Rebecca is correct, one parent must be grey to pass the grey gene along. Grey is a dominant gene and greys can be homozygous or heterozygous - meaning they can carry two grey genes in which case they will only ever have a grey foal, or they can carry one grey gene, then there is a chance they can have a foal that doesn’t grey.Grey is a modifier gene I believe. All greys are born as the color they would be if they did not have the grey gene. They can be any color but if they also carry the grey gene then as they age their coat color fades out. Depending on the horse some grey fast and can be almost white in a few years while others grey slowly and be in their teens and still not be white. Another interesting fact is that at least 1 parent has to be grey for the foal to be grey. Does not matter if all 4 grandparents are grey, if neither parent is grey the foal will not be.
I think her and Aurora conspire on how to look both regal and boredAnother wonderful picture! Definitely POW worthy.

Sorry about your chooks, especially Jaffar. The rain hasn't gotten to me yet, but heavy rain is after me starting at 7PM tonight. Hope you and your chooks get a good night's rest and Jaffar feels better.Update on the situation:
All the hens are in the coop now, but poor Jaffar was stuck out in the rain. I found him hiding under a chair, soaked with rain. He’s going to spend the night inside with me tonight. I don’t think he’s feeling well.![]()
