That video speaks to me on so many levels. It is always the highest and the farthest back that they lay. I know I have a few on top I need to collect but nope. Last time I climbed it it wobbled with me. I got down fast. Evil, evil hens.
I am surprised I didn’t fall off trying to get to the step ladder, I did manage to check way around the back and there were none, those kiddos just love getting up high! I am really hoping the silkies don’t try to get up there. Fluffy has been laying in her chosen nestbox but sometimes the other three get ideas!

@Ponypoor that hen was so proud of herself too!
I love those condos, what pampered chooks you have!
My dad is really excited to make the coop for me. Hubby...well he's happy we're getting eggs and "dad knows I'm gonna be a bug up his butt as soon as the ground thaws right? My girls better be sitting pretty by the end of spring!"

Oh! He told me not to put eggs in my pockets so I busted out some yarn and started drafting a pattern for a (machine washable) egg carry basket.

Mine will hold up to 7 but if I am clever I could make the pattern modular to hold even more. 🤔

Word of advice, make the coop just a little bit bigger then what you think you need. The satin silkie girls already proved chicken math is real.

Serious question on feeding the crows. Do you just scatter them around and hope nobody else eats them?
It would be well worth my while to feed the crows, but there are a lot of critters out there!
I put the peanuts where I see them hang out. The cardinals grab them too. However, nothing else seems to eat them before the crows take off with them. We have a very large murder and they pick up on routine in a flash.

When its warm enough take a cup of peanuts out with you. When you see a crow or two say, “hey crow” and dump the peanuts. Leave them there and repeat using the same phrase. I call out to them and usually if they are close enough to hear me one or two will come circle up above to see if I will leave anything.

They like all nuts, eggs, meat scraps of any kind and cat food. They also like a bowl of water nearby their food if possible, as they often dunk food before eating it.

Routine seems to help keep their interest.

I have lost internet. A surprisingly likeable Verizon Bot told me sweetly it will be out for at least 24 hours.
I have patchy cell phone coverage if I am lucky.
So no TV, no PC, no coop cameras, no BYC.
This wouldn’t faze me normally except that the temperatures are plummeting tonight so tomorrow would be a good day not to go outside.
I can already hear that the mice have all come inside to warm up in my walls and ceilings.
See you all when I reconnect to the world.
Tax (if it will upload).
