Spring is here at the Chicken Palace. Calypso and Sylvie are still holding out.
Calypso is now nearly 11 months old. She is definitely trying to take Bernie’s advice: don’t lay your first egg in your first year.

I thought today was fluffy butt friday. Josey had her butt pointed towards me and I almost got excited over sharing that photo then I realized it wasn't friday.

Post it anyway! Gives BY Bob a visual treat.

Petunia is not well tonight. I think she is again having issues with passing an egg, I gave her half a calcium, and if she hasn’t perked up by morning I will give her another half. I also gave her a half aspirin to help with any pain and inflammation. Poor kiddo. I would not have expected my mutt chicken to be the one with such issues. It would not have surprised me if it was one of the Azures though.
Petunia is still unwell - I can feel a mass that feels like an egg in her abdomen, but cannot feel anything if I do an internal exam.

I gave her and Red an egg to eat, but she didn’t want to eat anything else.

I gave her another 1/4 calcium tablet, 1/2 an aspirin and some Tylenol for pain. Last I left her she was in a nest box for the night.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated 😟

I’m so sorry Ponypoor. I don’t have any suggestions but I really hope that she feels better. ❤️💕

I posted this in another thread, but I wanted to share it here, too.

This story does a bit to restore my faith in my fellow human beings.

My neighbor, Jamie, is dying of heart failure. They called a small company to come clean their windows. The price had gone up, of course, since everything is more expensive. They told the guys to do what they could do in the time allowed for the $200 fee. One of the workers saw Jamie sitting in her chair, bundled up in blankets, and asked her husband if she was ok.

No, no she's not.

He gave them the check for $200, and one of the guys wanted to give him $100 bill in change. Charlie said, no, but thank you. So the guy said that they had noticed that the gutters were clogged full of leaves, and they would come back another day to clean them, for free.

Which they did, today.
How wonderful! It is always uplifting to hear stories like that. Thanks so much for sharing.

Took kiddo to see her chickens, and she insisted we put Liara's freshly laid egg in a bowl for them so they got a nice mash with the kibble and seeds. Even Morinth got out for it!

They got to eat outside the run so kiddo could love on them.

Liara did her whole flighty thing but it didn't take too much to put her away when kiddo was ready to go inside.

And finally...the perfect sicky reading is here.

And my fourth girl. The silkies aren't from a farm store!

Ugh. It isn’t sharp exactly. Just metal and very narrow.
I guess I could remove the heater. Of stuck a pool noodle on it (might not stay on for long).
Go out and move her for a few nights in a row. Unless she likes being handled she will get the hint.
