Part 4 of the doctor trip.
So the doctor started off with Grandma's height. Grandma was a good 14 inches tall. Now the doctor took Grandma's width. Around 19 inches in circumference. Grandma did have a little trouble standing up straight but overall she did well. The anticipation is taking over, isn't it. Well, part 5 soon.
What happened to part 3?!

Learning about wild water starts at an early age. (Thar water is much cleaner than it looks, the bucket is stained)

It’s also a sad fact that 50% of said chicks will be…..

Like Rosario here

Yep - Rose is a Rosario. They finally figured that out when Rose crowed one morning last week - yep - a cockerel.

Not sure what’s up with Hoovers this year - I had a chick turns out to be a cockerel, they had a chick turns out to be a cockerel.

Anyways I told them I didn’t have capacity to keep another Roo but that’s I would ensure to rehome him. So what’s that now - 3 I have to rehome.

Oh and the other chicklet his daughter wanted to keep a while longer - it’s a pullet so it won’t cause trouble with the neighbours until she starts laying.

I told them once she started laying she would be very noisy and she really would need friends. It’s not good to keep only one they get lonely. Though have to say the way this young cockerel is - very friendly! I bet the pullet is a big suck also.

He’s a handsome boy but he will have to go, seems Topsy doesn’t like him!

One of my roost is in front of a small window. I block it a few days during the year when there is a really cold wind with a piece of cardboard. How cold, windy or damp is your climate ?

About the roosts, I would just temper RC's comment that if you prefer not to have to make modifications in the future, think that once your hens are older they won't be as agile jumping both up and down. In fact, some won't be able to jump at all.

Missouri is ridiculous. You never know what the weather will be.

We've not hit triple digits this year, but last year we had a week or two in the summer. 90's are common. We're having a very unusually cool snap right now, in the low 80s. I'd have loved to have moved the chickens now, but, oh well. :idunno It's humid. Not deep south humid, but 60% and above is very common in summer. Winters get below zero, but not always. Climate change is real. Our winters are noticeably warmer than they used to be. But you never know here. Could have a week of negatives. Heat is definitely more of an issue than cold though. Wind is also totally variable and can be be none to lots. It does normally come from the west, and that particular window faces north.

I was concerned about putting it in front of the window. Glad that's not that much of a concern.

As for height, I guess one at 3" sounds OK then? I can easily put a ramp. I'd thought about one at 2' and one at 3' But I'd been considering poop boards, and that won't work going 2' on the bottom. Maybe at 3 and 4 feet, with a ramp?

Heckers. So that is why I now have a mustache 🤔 I don't speak Italian but I tend to shout out a lot in French when I get upset :D

Is it one of those skinny curly ones? Like Hercule Poirot?
Going to have to get some of these when they go on sale.
