The boys are off to their new home. The sebright will be getting two ladies right away, the polish is going to head a breeding program at his new place, and the others will be given their own pens and girls as well.
She said she'll send me pics when they are settled in, and especially when the blue polish grows up.

I'm a bit sad, but also happy to connect with a chicken farmer who wants to load me up with fancy eggs next spring haha.

Wattles Wednesday :
When is a rooster supposed to be in that idiot aggressive age?
my Wyandottey doesn’t know?View attachment 3951469
If he has forgotten leave him be.

My dear George. He is not crowing, he is not aggressive. He is a idiot though right now through and through. He attacks his reflection in the mirror and is showing interest in the girls. He has yet to figure out that one does not introduce oneself or woo a lady by charging up to her and chest bumping. I swear I will not interfere when lessons are taught. George is going to make me eat those words I just know it the little idiot.

I love the stripes too. @Desertvalleychickens has the most gorgeous Dom roo specimen ever! His Buff boy got very handsome too. We aren't zoned for ros so I love roo pics. Everyone has such beautiful boys ~ they have that regal air about them ~ they deserve to strut their stuff 😊

"Why, thank you!"

13-yrs saga cont (2020)...

Events happened quickly in 2020 especially the last part of 2020 ~ Covid craziness was rampant, we commissioned a walking bridge for the backyard, we lost our 2nd Dominique to heatstroke, and we were down to one Breda hen "Char", one Dominique hen "Dana", and one old Silkie "Violet."

So in Sept we ordered a DNA-sexed Dark Partridge Silkie chick from Amber Waves Silkies (out of business today after almost 40 yrs). We named the chick "Amber".

She was a sickly chick w/some deformities & Amber Waves Silkies made good to replace her (later as chicks became available) & meanwhile waiting for a replacement we made a commitment to foster Amber as a house Silkie. She cost over $125 so we had investment in her. But more than that, she was a really sweet smart chick. She immediately loved being held & if she was on the floor she'd tug at our pant leg to be picked up! Her 1st day she was a computer chick & passed out sleeping there or she'd crawl under my hand to sleep.

There was no knowing what her full internal deformities might've been. Outwardly she was missing toes & had crooked toes on each foot. Internally she wasn't absorbing nutrients as her plumage wasn't growing right, & she was losing appetite as she grew. The vet did not recommend stressing Amber w/tests after determining it wasn't worms in her fecal sample. If there was something malformed w/her digestive organs she wasn't going to live long anyway. It really bummed us since she was such a lovebug. We took her for car rides w/us cuz she'd cry if we left her alone & she got a little outdoor time to be as much chicken as she wanted.

But one weekend after a month of caring for Amber she aspirated, gasped, shuddered, & died in my hands. Really miss the sweetie but so glad we didnt return her to the breeder who would've just culled her. W/us she had care & a little life to be as much chicken as she wanted to be.

By December 2020 Amber Waves Silkies had a Silver Partridge chick free to replace Amber & while we were at it we bought a Gold Partridge DNA chick too for another $145 ~ it pays to go thru reputable NPIP breeders. We were wearing masks to pick up our chicks although people were choosing not to wear them.
