I’m glad you are being more safe now. I have been fine. I’m having some heart issues, which is worrisome, but I see a cardiologist in two weeks.

The Darlings, as I call the hens, have been doing pretty well. They’re almost all through molt. I had to tube feed Minnie Minnie through part of it, and now she enjoys snuggles, even though she was raised by Cashew!

Here are the girls a couple weeks ago…
Good to see the Darlings - nice shady bush they have there.
🥰

I'm rather familiar with mischief makers. Raised by, married to, and raised more... I'll call you on it and still love you for being Alex, another mischief maker. View attachment 3986941

View attachment 3986942More wyandottes. Silver was such a sweet queen, I fell in love with wyandottes and always want some in my tribe. Jessica was a great mother, too. Buster (our first roo, silver laced idiot) we made mistakes with him (re: roo behavior) and got him in the midst of his hormonal idiocy phase. He had started settling down when the foxes made off with most of the tribe. He put up quite the fight. I want another wyandotte roo at some point, also.
Another gorgeous picture!

I love the guy, that’s for certain. He’s just a bit rambunctious. I had no control over what I received free from my pastor. He also gave me another free bag of feed today.
:thumbsup I’m always giving him and his wife free eggs.
What a nice relationship you have though! I'm hoping to make friends like that some day.

It’s Rudy and Wyandevil that don’t get along. If Rudy is trying to mate, then Mr. Wyandottey will attack him, and vice Versa
Getting thru that 1st year is stressful. I'm always so glad when our birds get to maturity to get pecking orders & alpha status established. Every flock, every bird, so different!

When we had 3 Dominique hens they protected Silkie Violet from aggressive Cuckoo Breda Char who was a very large heavy bird compared to little 2.5-lb Violet. We eventually lost 2 Dominique hens ~ the one remaining Dominique Dana protected Violet from Char but it was just too stressful for Dana & Violet and us!

At 4-1/2 yrs old we finally rehomed Char w/our rescue friend ~ we gave Char the chance to be a good hen but she was just too big & mean towards Silkes. From this experience DH & I made the decision to turn our backyard flock into a Silkies-only flock.

Luckily Dominique Dana is a kind alpha towards Silkies so we keep her. Just yesterday Dana went face-to-face w/ a feral cat who dared to creep up on her! DH went out to intervene but the feral was already scared from Dana. I love cats cuz they have the good sense to fear chickens but dogs I don't trust that they would back off from a good scrap.

@Sylvester017 My Marans was the sweetest baby. She was a Midnight Majesty, half marans half barred rock.
And my two silkie cross hens ran the whole show for a long time! Stern but kind leaders they are. Liara the prarie bluebell is also a natural leader.

The farm lady I got the hens and butcher boys from and I talked for a bit last night. She loves the names we gave the hens and is happy Nocturne seems to have healed up. She told me next year I should let Nocturne and Cookie brood some chicks because they are both excellent mamas. And I'll be able to give them more eggs each!
So the "plan" is let Samara and Morinth hatch in spring, then let Cookie and Nocturne hatch in summer if they go broody.
