This is Middle, on of my soon-to-be-5yo Black Australorps. She is rarely featured in pictures, but she did pose for this. I think she will be the first lady "back to work," based on her comb, wattles, and face.
She says, Merry Chickmas to all. Merry whatever you celebrate.
It's summer in Australia!Good morning Alex, how are you and your chooks today?
It’s cold a dreary here, wish Christmas was during warmer months![]()
Awwwwww!Merry Christmas from Poppet and Turkey. Little Turkey will be 4 weeks old tomorrow and is still a tiny little thing. I had to bribe them out of the coop with bread. That lasted all of 5 minutes and resulted in Poppet trouncing Spot, Randy and Judy for simply walking by. Turkey ended up hightailing it back into the coop and Poppet followed. Hint taken Poppet. She is still not ready to introduce Turkey to the big world outside the coop. I wish all my momma hens were this happy to keep their chicks up this long.

What little bit I have gotten to interact and handle Turkey besides normal feathering he/she is all silkie. Tiny, black skin, double toes and feathery legs. Nothing for a comb yet either but I do believe it to be a silkie type comb. Poor Randy, his child is going to look nothing like him.
I told Felicitas to quit trying to lay eggs any more. I hope she takes the advice. She always struggles with the first five or so eggs and it's painful to watch/deal with her when that happens. Usually drops them from the perch or lays a shelless.I also received another Christmas blessing. You all know I have been worried about Judy and her not taking a break from egg laying. If she does not lay today it will make 4 days since her last egg. For your own good Judy at least go on a 3 week break.
Looking great, Sylv, but Grandma is not a Barnevelder. I've had several others ask me this before and I've had to tell them she is not a Barnevelder. She's a Plymouth Rock. Although most Plymouth Rocks you see are black and white, like Tony, there are also brown ones like Grandma. Is Grandma a Barnevelder or have Barnevelder in her history? She has gold Barnie feathering...so beautiful!
