She was in the next box again, whining and grumbling. And no wonder! After 10 or 15 minutes of waiting and hanging out, I hear a heavy plop...

Sooooo in that case Curly must carry a gene for a comb as Betty has a small funky twisted comb and wattles.

Ummmm that last photo might be Curly…? But since she has no tail then I figure it’s Betty

Betty is much less straightforward. Mr P's V-comb does odd things when mixed with any other type of comb....I couldn't find much about v-combs crossed with others with any degree of consistency when trying to figure out what Thing's comb would do.

One of my Lavender Orpingtons from Peavey Mart was found outside the run this morning. She was sopping wet. I brought her inside and blowdried her. Now she is back in the run.

@lightm ~ TY for a nice synopsis! The theme indeed was a LOT of winter weather. Our lousy weather currently is a lot of smoky fire horizons & our worst winter weather will start w/flooding rainstorms around Feb/Mar .

She's just some kind of RSL. Maybe golden comet but I know they're all more or less the same thing.


I know, I feel bad for her I hope it doesn't become a regular thing. Especially at her young age. Hopefully it was just a fluke!

Mankind engineers hybrid chickens to lay insanely huge eggs & frequently. It's why we avoid Jumbo or hybrid layer breeds. Our Blue Wheaten Ameraucana layed larger eggs than our Leghorns or Marans so we never got Ameraucanas again. We never had EE's so not sure how large their blue/green eggs get?

Our Silkie Ginny lays larger eggs than the other 4 Silkies but she's also a pound heavier than the others so not unusual for her.

So, in FEBRUARY I will be getting my first batch of eggs. Polish chicken lady lost her pompom flock to an opossum and is buying new eggs from a friend. She said she'll happily add a few to her order for me.
And of course, the cochin crosses. We have to have some of those.

Thinking of saving up to buy this little coop to mount to a tabletop with a pullout tray for porch-brooding chicklets. I would be able to insulate and reinforce it easy enough, and the price is good.

Pullout trays are great for cleaning! Just make sure those chickerdoodles are completely clear before sliding it out. Chick behavior is so unpredictable, the little buggers!

Mum got that ‘Alexa’ thingie for Christmas and we are having fun with it, this morning I was downstairs joking around and was saying to mum she should ‘ask Alexa to play crazy chicken song’ well I guess that computer heard me and started playing that song hahahahaha

None of mine have ever laid a double yolk. I had one in some store eggs this summer, first in at least a decade I think.

Pretty sure Lumi laid her first egg yesterday! She also went walking again of course
