Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

One of my Lavender Orpingtons from Peavey Mart was found outside the run this morning. She was sopping wet. I brought her inside and blowdried her. Now she is back in the run.

Gosh! How did she get out I wonder? I sure hope she’s ok, good call on drying her off. They are really fluffy so hopefully she will have all that fluff to help keep her warm.

A couple more silkie roosters were listed this past week close by.

The first is a naked neck, nope not touching that thing with a 10 foot pole. Show girl silkies just are not my cup of tea. I know there is a following out there who love them. I just cannot with the naked necks. To be a part of my flock I have to enjoy the "look" of the birds.

2 more roosters were posted and they also are not what I am looking for build and look wise. I feel so bad for them I almost contacted them out of pity. The pictures were taken inside their coop, which is a mud pit. Yes I know lately everywhere has been a mud pit, but my coop was kept dry.

I refrained from inquiring about all 3. Pity or not, none of the boys were what I wanted and the 2 non naked necks had no beards, and straight red combs.

The right silkie boy is out there. I will find him and if I find him through an add on facebook or craigslist I will know it when I see it.

Roosters need love too!

Betty is much less straightforward. Mr P's V-comb does odd things when mixed with any other type of comb....I couldn't find much about v-combs crossed with others with any degree of consistency when trying to figure out what Thing's comb would do.

Oh yes the devil comb - the one I almost clipped off when I was trimming his poof !!!

Speaking of which - those darn girls picked at him in the Hen House before I could let him out this morning, he is once again all covered in blood - darn hens.

Poor fella - I need to go out and give him a good cleaning.

I've seen wild bird rescues where vet's operate or fix these types of injuries cuz birds rely on their legs, wings, beaks for everything... but I shudder to think what it would cost for a domestic vet treatment ?

Just basic care for a chicken at a vet's office is expensive. It cost 300 to set Goldies leg. But even puppy care is expensive. It cost around 500 to treat Toby's scratched cornea, but he's completely healed which is all that matters.
