Better safe than sorry I say.Well, lets make that 3 solid weeks of no school. The schools are allowed 10 NTI days per year. We have used them and are now on regular snow days that will need to be made up for.
I know the majority of the north continues to go to school with several inches to a foot or more of snow on the ground. Kentucky is different. Especially Eastern Kentucky. Yes the road crew are great at clearing off the main road, they are even good at getting the secondary roads clear. We have mountains and hollers. Lots of little side roads that rarely see a salt truck and do not get enough sun to melt the snow or ice.
My county is also the largest in the state and parts of it have the highest elevation. So while my area may not have any snow or a dusting the Elkhorn area will have several inches and be horrible. Of course when they call off school they do it county wide instead of districts.
Now there are some days where I personally feel they could or should have had school throughout the years but they have not. Truth be told they are extra cautious anymore.

That bus wreck has been in the back of both Pike and Floyd counties minds ever since it happened.
Yes here they will have school and you’re correct, we have lots of snow removal equipment. We all laugh and joke that we spend the good weather months preparing for the bad weather months

And it’s so true!
I sure hope the weather starts to moderate for all of us, I am tired of cold and snow:
